As a professional drywaller I use the 10in fatboy box to run the joints and the 12in to get the butt joints on the first coat. And if you use a 10in box u want to make the joints hollow so when you do skim the next coat with the 12in box in comes out super flat. You applying it and wiping afterwards. Your waiting time and money. That's why we have things called sanders!

I can only speak for my tapetech. I use a 7 and a 10. I fill flat with my 7, check with a new knife. If any mud on the knife it’s too much. Use my 10 next and check. When it’s dry it’s flat and smooth, what more is there to say/do? Ready for texture or sanding. My little tip is I run about 400 sheets on the blade and then flip it over and it’s another new blade. Blades don’t perform well it seems after 400 sheets.

Just gets rid of any air bubbles and flattens it right out. I think it's good to do. I see many people don't think it's needed, but you can see looking down the joint while it's being done how much better it makes it. It also feathers the joint when you change direction. Sometimes you get some debris it you have to run along next to a cut out and can cause it to scratch, wiping after solves all of those woes...

After you skim over the joints using the box tool what do you do with the rest of the board and reveals? Do you skim the board where it's not close to a joint or a reveal? In UK they tend to skim the entire wall with a brown/red type of plaster.
@Maxkil
Жыл бұрын
you just leave it, in Australia only for a level 5 finish you would skim the entire wall. Its needs a good sealer undercoat rolled onto it to blend as well. I get them perfect after paint, but the painter plays a big part in the finish of the drywall. Yeah in the UK some of the thick plaster on walls looks like a complete mess but its a different climate here in Australia.. Hey Martin you should subscribe!

The boxes are a finishing tool you're on the right track when you're using a 6 or 7 inch box first to fill the rebate then an 8 inch box and then a 10 or 12 inch box whichever you prefer you end up with a perfect joint but if you practice a little more you're able to go over the joint without following up with the paddle if you have a faster mixer you can buy a jiffler which has blades breaks down the lumps better using the pump you get very very few bags in your mix and you don't need to pavlova it the paddles remove the crown out of the joint and you end up with pin holes in your topping so try to use the box as a finishing tool and eliminate the use of the pedal you will double your speed and the quality of your job will be much. tieme wagga plaster works
