Of the original guys from Axis and omni International only Rik Thomas is still active working with the new team of Voice over Artists. He if still around would be around 83-84 years old now.

YES! I can't stand watching the drunken master re-dub! Oh my goodness it's horrible. Especially Sam Seed's voiceover!

I despise the new dubs. Most of the redubbed English seem to be in Golden Harvest films. GH also often messes around with sound effects, and the music used in the soundtracks of some movies. Interestingly, in some of the GH redubs, they included some old-school dubbers redubbing with the American dubbers. They did the American voices for Drunken Master (made by Seasonal Films) only because Jackie's popularity. The American-sounding voices have no personality or character to them. Unlike the Austrslian and British dubs.

I like the 1978 voice actor for Leung Kar-Yan and the 2022 voice actor for Sammo Hung Kam- Bo in Warriors Two (1978). Sammo's character is the comedian. For Magnificent Butcher (1979), If I had to choose, it would be the American version. Sounds like the voice actors that Shaw Brothers would have used. As for Drunken Master (1978), Wong Fei Hung (Jackie Chan) is supposedly drunk. Slurred speech is evidence of one who has overindulged in alcohol. Overall, it doesn't make any difference to me. "But still", I guess we can all agree that we watch martial arts films for the fight scenes. The experience is ruined only when the sound effects are not in sync with every individual step of the choreography.

Can't watch any that are dubbed now. Bring back the British dubs. As long as they have English subtitles I'm good!🤯🤦🏽♂️

The original Rank international release of Drunken master and the later distribution with altered dubs not from Axis international really ground my gears. Certain Line deliveries were just off. And it lost its feel and timing. Now if there were movies that have never had a dub before and were only dubbed recently i would not mind. But these original dubs had that touch of nostalgia.

70s better dubs because we are used to them watching so many kung fu movies ,and better than reading subtitles and missing the fight action

Australian dubs all the way! It always feels weird when the people look foreign but sound local.

I guess I really haven’t had much exposure to the new generation of dubbing. My preference is watching in the original language with English subtitles. I particularly liked the English expats in Hong Kong who did the independent movies like Leg Fighters etc., especially the “the hands and feet are the body’s natural weapons” guy. I keep hoping that someone will/has shed light on those popular rubbers back then. Who they were etc. I suppose it would bother me if someone went to the trouble of redubbing something like that.

YES! YES! Thanks for bringin this up! I do not like dub nation DVDs messing with these movies. The dialogue, and the sound effects are so different and unwatchable. Just like drunken master, Iron Monkey, and so many shaw bros. movies. I still got me a VHS tape player so i buy the tapes knowing im gonna get the original dub. The original DVD dubs are like needles in a haystack to find now.

Wow that’s a tough one as far as dubbing goes the new GH dubbing sounds terrible imo I can even include some (very few) SB dubbing (I prefer around the 80’s SB dubbing is great) back in the day ocean shores exploited English dubbing (tbh most dubbing was bad some was good ) Filmark Godfrey Ho dubbing was good i think their crew was called Axis International . As far as subtitles I do prefer that as it really captures the truest to the film dubbing actors cut down longer dialogue to fit modern English style dialogue. Watching subtitles is a learned skill to matchup the action with the subtitles everyone can do it takes practice.

I watch them in the original Cantonese language since I understand Cantonese. The dubs not matter the version always makes them a little more campy and watered down the writing removing all sorts of nuances. Only Hong Kong movies I watch with English dub is Armor of God 2 Operation Condor and Wheels on Meals which works better because having so many Caucasian actors speak Cantonese in an European setting is just weird lol.
