Dubai Creek Tower and The Dubai Creek Harbour, which has numerous tourist attractions inside and outside, is located fifteen minutes from Downtown. Locals, and Sheikh Zayed Road is conveniently approachable. This neighbourhood was designed to be the ideal fusion of ecological and opulent living. The centrepiece of this neighbourhood was the Dubai Creek Tower. A building truly meant to outclass Burj Khalifa while boasting a petal-like structure. The tower was supposed to be completed in 2022, but its construction stopped. Similar to how Burj Dubai was known before debuting as Burj Khalifa, the name "Creek" is only temporary.
The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbor, or Iconic Tower, was the name given to the building by the developer at the time the "Dubai Creek" first went public in February 2016; the name was inscribed on a foundation stone at the construction site. Spanish-Swiss architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava designed the tower. To effectively prevent Dubai Creek Tower's height from being beaten by other projects of significant market competitors, notably the Jeddah Tower, the developer Emaar has decided to withhold its exact height until after its formal opening in 2022. This tower, which is 8 kilometres east of Burj Khalifa, will have an estimated size of 928 to 1300 metres with a $1 billion finishing budget. The top of Dubai's newest, tallest tower will shine a "beacon of light" at night. will be at the top of the building, hosting ten observation decks.
Half of this platform will be outside the tower's façade. Cable arrays, modelled after the ribs on lily leaves, make Dubai Creek Tower stand out the most. A central core made of reinforced concrete is where these wires are attached. Therefore, besides being decorative, these cables will support the tower and have LED lighting for breath-taking nightly light shows. Based on a lily-but design, the Dubai Creek Tower is absurdly tall, yet it will only have 20 floors that can be occupied.
Dubai Creek Tower's construction completely stopped shortly after the completion of its foundations, around the same time that Jeddah Tower, which was being built in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was put on hold due to corruption allegations against the owners of the companies behind that tower. The tower was only formally put on hold in 2020 as Dubai was locked down. Remember that the building was scheduled to be finished before the Dubai Expo, but the completion dates needed to be more moderate. Construction has been put on hold indefinitely since December 7, 2020, until the government approves a restart of the project once the pandemic is under control. Fun fact: The foundations were laid much earlier than anticipated. Recent years have also seen Dubai's property market waiver - and ongoing fallout from the 2008 Global Financial Crisis and a drop in oil price has left the city with an oversupply of homes and offices. The added impact of the pandemic and the subsequent global economic downturn may prove too much for the tower to proceed. Despite the context, EMAAR Properties strongly resisted all the wishy-washy and insisted that the building be completed in 2022. EMAAR Properties failed to deliver again this time around as well.
Many are now wondering why the construction is not resuming. Some believe it is still paused because EMAAR properties want to see the impact of Jeddah Tower first. Wealthy Sheiks in UAE believe that infrastructure brings in a lot of business. Primary reason why UAE's economy flourished was because it was a free zone. Tax-free areas are always the first choice for investors, but now, with the introduction of VAT, i.e., Value Addition Tax and other taxes, UAE is not a business-welcoming place like it used to be. UAE is also in the UN's plans for sustainable growth, which has its own set of development restrictions, and, with scientific research, new regulations consistently get added to the list. After occupying Dubai Holdings, the owner of EMAAR is still confident that they will be able to pull off this project, but they are still determining why it is still at a halt tower.
