The Dublin Horse Show is famous for the high class of hunting horses shown at the show. The Irish horse is famous for its ability to cross all types of country and terrain with ease its famous "fifth leg" the ability to recover quickly if the horse lands awkwardly I would image many breeders enthusiasts and riders of continental bred horses would dispute this as a myth peddled by horse dealers to get the best price for their horses. But Irish horses are very popular in the Hunting fields in the UK and Ireland and many people travel to Ireland to purchase horses. Of course you will see the best of Irish Horses are the RDS Dublin Horse Show and most of the horses are for sale. Hunting horses in Ireland are normally bred by crossing Irish Draught Mares with Thoroughbred Horses and they can also be crossed with the Irish Sports Horse Sports and some of the better types of Pure Bred Irish Draught Horses make excellent hunters. Blackmoor Mac an Rua ab pure Bred Irish Draught Gelding won the Heavy weight Hunter class in the Horse of the Year Show HOYS in Bermingham in 2007 and this year small Hunter Class the reserve Champion was Farm Hill Grange of Donard who I believe is a pure bred Irish Draught Horse Bred by Phil Deegan, Donard County Wicklow.
