Great bike. Used one for a couple years on track for competition. Really reliable. And a Dream in the corners with the right set up. many 1000cc bikes have trouble losing you. I had the evo model though. Put some fresh pirellis super corsas on it

That's great to hear! I know they were considered as one of the best mid weight sports bikes of it's time so think you can't go to far wrong with one of these. I loved the way it felt on the road and love the look of it too :)

I have a 848 track bike was my road bike and couldn’t let it go when it came to new bike time, would say they struggled around town with a little chugging in low gear but change to a 14 tooth front sprocket is a must if it bothers you, if you can stretch to a newer 848 evo think around 2010 you get a little better performance and a steering damper standard and a little stretch more to the evo corse addition gets you traction control and quick shifter, as for the steering catching your hands on fairing that comes standard with all the range 😂 and the mirrors are crap you can get extension blocks but the don’t really help that much I went for a bar end mirror and removed the mirrors and replaced with after market blank plates with indicator, love this bike more than any I have had just for it’s pure pleasure it gives me. Hope this helps and good luck with your hunt.

Thanks mate, that's a great help. Yep I did notice it struggled a tinny bit at lower revs but it didn't bother me to much. I don't want to spend to much so would probably buy the standard earlier model if I decide to buy one as the extra power ect doesn't really bother me, although I probably would fit a quick shifter. Ha that's funny about the hands hitting the fairing, I thought it was a badly cut aftermarket fairing but no! lol Yep good idea about the mirrors, I'd go for that set up too ;) I loved riding the 848 and it's a strong contender, thanks again, Griz :)

No problem they are great and lots of aftermarket and Original Ducati improvements that can be done, I would avoid any highly modified examples probably been tracked especially if they don’t have original fairings, service history is important oil change every year although maybe more and cam belts every 2 years, if it has done around or over 15,000 miles a valve check is needed and it is expensive so another how to video I would see in your future 😀 they are quite easy to work on and bags of fun, not a bad bike for a certain lady in your life to move up too 👍 you have me in the mood to buy another bike 😄

Hey thanks mate, glad you enjoyed! :) I really like the 848. The KTM 790 Duke video will come next, I was trying to get a test ride on a standard Super Duke this week but the one at Fowlers is broke after someone dropped it.. I've got a busy couple of weeks coming up so it might be a while to my next test ride so a bit of a wait sadly. Still got to sell the bmw yet but hoping I can get a quick sell and go buy something fun. Ride safe & thanks for your kind words :)

Ah superb! They are brilliant bikes, the front is a little heavy but gives great feedback and fast steering (check the tyre pressure as that can make it feel worse) Yes ride it for a few days and see if you get used to the seat height and shaving the seat down a little would help. I’ve got to do the same on my wife’s ZX6R soon. Enjoy the 848 mate! 😎😁

Sixth Gear Motorcycles well, i know its only a ten minute snippet but the test ride seemed to be exclusively on city roads. it's probably because i do all my riding in mid Wales but I'd want to feel it digging in on a sequence of twisties, quick change of direction, good lean angle, etc. Everybody wants different things from their bike don't they? all i meant was i strongly suspect this bike would be mega on the roads i ride but i don't think i could work out whether it was from this test ride. i really enjoyed the vid though. 👍

Glad you enjoyed the video mate. In a ideal world I would have filmed it on some beautiful roads and got a better feel for it but the dealership wasn’t close to any good roads. The 848’s race proven pedigree is testament enough for me to be honest. I ride these roads often so it’s a relevant test for me and still worthwhile. Ride safe mate and enjoy those beautiful roads you have 😎👍

@SixthGearMotorcycles
6 жыл бұрын
Nice choice of bike mate, the 939 is about the same power as the 848 but the 848 is lighter and for me a better looker. I'm still very much stuck in the need for a sports bike riding position and love the look of the 848. The 939 cost's about twice as much as the 848 too and I'm strongly siding with the 2 bikes option so I can use a second bike through the winter. I'm sure the 939 is a fantastic bike though!
@Morten_Nielsen1979
5 жыл бұрын
I am considering to buy either the 848 or the 939 in some months. In about a year the second hand price difference will only be 2000 euro, so the price is no reason to chose one over the other. Which one to choose? The 939 is more comfortable and less race inspiring I guess.
@SixthGearMotorcycles

Where do i start....5k for a crashed/repaired 848! a grand less at least! Sounds argumentative (trying to put it nicely) but, youll get into just as much trouble on an 848 as you will on an s1000rr, if not more as youll get used to it and rag it more, then (and this is a prediction) in a years time the "Griz'll be up for a change" you tube video will be out....im guessing a superduke or some other naked...do yourself a favour, put the BMW in the garage and chuck a sheet over it. Go and get another bike but something totally different (and much slower) - a supermoto or something like that. Ride it, and in a couple of months time get your BM out and ride it...itll feel like youve just bought another bike....youll, be "disjointed from it" so you wont rag the shit out of it. In a couple of years time get a naked (keep the other 2) and itll be exponentially the same. Insurance i hear you say...cheaper than you think - after all you can only ride one at a time...i have 5 bikes insured for 600 quid fully comp - one them for sale and the other is my late fathers 40 year old Honda. The cynical side of me says your doing it for the sheer change of it...anyone who sells a bike with the phrase "its time to let someone else enjoy it" tells me theyre bored of it for example. 20 years ago i used to do this...own bike, see a.n.other bike in the car park at Fowlers, sell your soul and bike to get "that one", and then do it all again in a year or 18months...! loosing between 1 and 2k or more each time. Bought my RSV4 8 years ago and still love it, z1000 after that, no plans to sell either and finally HyperMotard 1100 evo sp 2 years ago. Not going to leave me any time soon!!!
@SixthGearMotorcycles
6 жыл бұрын
Umm yep that sounds argumentative to me but thanks for your insight to my mindset! lol To be honest I've always changed my bikes quite often, I held onto my zx10r for a number of years as I couldn't afford to change it but that's not such a problem nowadays thankfully. Not sure why your trying to work as to why I want a change as I quite clearly described it in my last vlog. The bmw is going and I'm buying another bike and if I feel like selling that at some point I'll do that too. There's so many great bikes to enjoy out there and I'm happy trying out different bikes as and when I want to. Sorry to hear you think I might be chasing some kind of unattainable happiness on two wheels, I'm just doing what makes me happy as I believe you are too. I'm not losing money each time I decide to change bikes and never have. Cheer's Griz! :)
