I have no experience on the world stage, but I do know the United States. Here, where I live in Louisiana, we get bull dust. Everyone thinks of swamps with cypress trees and alligators. The climate is semi-tropical, we get 30+ inches of rainfall annually. Yet in the summer in June, July, August, September, and sometimes October, we have temperatures from the high 90s to above 100 degrees Fahrenheit and very little rain. The area I live in is an agricultural area with many dirt and gravel roads that get an extreme amount of travel, which creates the bull dust. That being said, I can't comprehend traveling hundreds or possibly thousands of kilometers or miles in these conditions, in a car or truck, much less a motorcycle! My hat is off to you guys!

It just goes to prove the old saying, check the simplest most obvious thing first. I think the problem is because of the massive amount of electronic kit fitted to the bikes now, we overlook something as simple as a fuse because other functions on the bike are still flashing etc so we think there has to be power still going to the screen. I know I certainly have overlooked the simplest solution myself sometimes in similar situations. This is a good reminder to us all. Just think how much pain would have been saved by going straight to the fuse box. And that said, how come Ducati in Italy didn't advise doing just that in that first text exchange?

Always loved your content to be honest your trip from London to Australia 🇦🇺 got my spark to get into adventure riding.. But cut to the chase regarding funny faults I got bmw f800gsa 2017 and love the bike done 15k miles no problems apart from toasting clutch in Wales and still got back on it home slipping but going 400miles home. But funny thing was I lost my abs and traction control at random and I was wtf and looked up on the forums and was surprised to find a fix I wouldn't even think about, there is a bmw wrench under a seat and it puts pressure on electric harnes around the ecu removed the spaner and fixed the bike !! Sometimes strange things happen and I would never think to look into this. Bike works fine now so if you get this if you own this beemer try removing the bloody spaner to fix the bike. Can you replaced the air filter foam with scotch brite dishwashing , just curious mate..We do that in our air filter in an enduro/trail 4-stroke motorbikes replacing it to lessen the expenses because the air filter is very expensive especially Japanese motorbikes carburetor types.

This was a great review of the Ducati Desert X and the ride from coast to coast probably the best real world test of the Ducati Desert X and it has proven that it is a dirt worthy adventure bike and one that could attract a few pumpkin riders. I think Ducati will be very interested in this review and the fins on the radiator guard won't be to far away I'd say. Australia can break a bike very quickly if it's not up to the task it would appear that Ducati have pretty much nailed it.

Great interview, I suppose going through so many tyres was because of the soft off compound. The rest of the bike stood the test of Australia.

Awesome effort and a great test of the bike. Put to bed a lot of the complaints about air filter and belt drive issues people seem to be getting hung up on about this bike.

My apologies for missing the details on your aftermarket air filter; is this a commercially made product? Or an at home production?

Unifilter - Commercially available all over the world.

I have the Termi race exhaust (no-cat) and removed the rear pegs and support frames on my DesertX. Tipped the scale at 478 lbs wet (full tank of fuel, right to the neck). My buddies T7 was rolled onto the same scale, only 12lbs lighter. I'm willing to bet the wet weight of a Ducati DesertX is LESS then a wet T7 World Raid. Sorry to burst your bubbles all you "T7s are so light" Yamaha fans.😂

I own a T7. The centre of gravity is higher than this bike.

A small extension on the back of the fender might lower the amount of mud that makes its way to the radiator.

Maybe. But we all agree it needs thought.

The exact mod I have done to mine in NZ - The first trip in wet, muddy conditions it suffered from clogging issues. Now wears a mudguard extension. Very muddy ride last weekend, problem solved :)
