About two years ago, I was sitting on the back porch of this restaurant in Florida, and I was sitting right next to the water. There was a bunch of fish swimming around there, and every time someone threw a chunk of bread in the water, they’d go crazy and splash all over the place until someone got that bread…. Well, when I started feeding the fish, there just so happened to be a pelican floating around nearby. I didn’t think much of it at the time, so I threw in another piece of bread - but this time, when the fish started fighting over the bread, the pelican moved in and gobbled one of them up! I just stared at that bird in shock while thinking to myself, “OMG… I just got a fish killed!!! 😭” I definitely felt bad about it for the rest of the day, and I stopped tossing bread into the water after that.

At first I thought the pelican missed the duckling and the duckling was perhaps under the water hiding or hiding in his mother‘s wings or something it was just so fast I had to slow the video down to realize the pelican swallowed that duckling whole. that duckling was literally in that pelican’s stomach probably still alive. That’s nature for you, everyone has to eat. but I do feel bad for the mama duck she witnessed her baby being eaten whole, I know animals don’t attach to their babies as much as humans do but that still has to be sort of traumatic for the mama duck to see her baby get eaten

Ducks have ducklings by the dozen, yet there aren't tens of billions of ducks flying around. Doesn't take much thinking to figure out why. Birth rate in nature is just cruel arithmetic. It depends on the species. Some parents have the instinct to take care of the children because it's the optimal course of action for that species. For some, the parents don't do anything, they lay the eggs and leave, because for that species it's the best course of action. It's not universal at all.

Ah yes, I do quite enjoy floating around in the water and snatching up a little baby duckling with my giant fucking beak bag with no feeling of guilt or remorse. After that I fluff out my feathers as I go and search for another, as the cycle continues

You press a button. That button drops a bunch of money on the city streets. Everyone runs out to get the money but some get killed by traffic. Not your fault, right? those people were gonna die eventually anyway
