The crimp end needs to go with the flow off the air. That wont pass inspection. If it does pass inspection expect a grease fire from the grease building up on the crimped end. Happy house dousing!

Not true, I did Sheet Metal Work for almost 40 years and the sign of a "Hack" is using needle nose pliers. They can be used in an extreme emergency but there is no excuse for doing something not properly because the installer is lazy... I would be looking at everything else this installer touched if this were my home.

@@richardfowler3254 how would using needle nose pliers (which is exactly what I was coming here to suggest) be "lazy". They accomplish the exact same goal.
@tommyaqua

@@dougsholly9323 the crimp isn't as precise, so it creates turbulence in the airflow. Still, I'd be lying if I said that a good pair of needle nose hadn't helped me more than once
@richardfowler3254
Жыл бұрын
@@dougsholly9323 Doug, actually they do not do the same thing. The crimp you can get from needle nose pliers will make larger crimps which then become problematic when trying to seal the ductwork. Crimping the duct shrinks the metal to make a slip connection easier. there are so many things wrong with this video in such a short clip. When I was installing, I would always try and do it like I was installing into my own home. Owning and using a pair of crimpers is something that every installer should always have in their tool bucket or belt. They do not cost that much and it makes the slip fitting so much easier. That being said, I have used needle nose pliers before when I realized that I lost of misplace my crimpers.
