A short bonus video! Two of the three G-tugs that assist ships through the harbor coming back from assisting Indiana Harbor.
The tug Missouri is 98ft long, built in 1927 (97 years old!). In 1981 she had new engines installed, featuring over 2,000 HP. She is Duluth’s main heavy tug.
The tug North Carolina is 91ft long and was built in 1952. She features roughly 1,200hp and mainly handles smaller ships, or larger vessels in tandom with other tugs.
The third tug, (not shown here) Kentucky, is 85ft long and built in 1929. She features 1,250 HP and serves a similar role as North Carolina.
There are also two additional tugs, Helen H (82 ft long) and Edward H (105ft long) that mainly service the shipyard but occasionally help out in the harbor a few times each year. Both of those were built in the late 60s, plus a handful of Army Corps of Engineers tugs occasionally station here to help maintain the harbor, such as the Bill Meyer.
