There were many who were slaves from Africa, and the southern regions. There was a handful of Middle Eastern people and of course those who're Native American. Coolest thing ever? They missed their own. While I was growing up, best friend was Ernie Rodriguez. Our church helped bring over refugees from Laos. One of my best friends was Pao Yang. Doing the US states on this kind of point-and-click quiz is physically easier, because your aim doesn't have to be as precise. Europe has at least half a dozen countries that are literally smaller than Rhode Island. Several of them are smaller than DC. So if your mouse hand isn't very steady, it's a problem. The intellectual aspect is more comparable, although Europe has had way more changes in the last few decades.

As an Indiana resident I feel it is my duty to inform you of some interesting facts about my state so you won't forget it. 1. Indiana residents are called Hoosiers whereas in all other states the state name ends up deciding what the residents are called. For example, Texan, New Yorker, or Californian. 2. Although being a part of the rust belt, (a group of northern stars that were once the industrial heartland of the country but are now primarily full of of abandoned factories and cities with smaller populations than they were built for) Indiana with the exception of its Northwestern cities is on a population incline and is still the largest steel and one of the largest limestone producers in the country. 2b. Fun little fact that is related but didin't quite fit with 2. The Empire state building and many of the governmental buildings in Washington DC are made of some 10-30~% of Indiana limestone. 3.The capital of Indiana (Indianapolis) is home to the largest sports arena in the WHOLE WORLD! The indi 500 speedway can comfortably fit Vatican City inside of it and have plenty of room to spare and can hold 400,000 people in it. This should suffice for now, if want to know more just ask. Every state has a story and there is plenty more to Indiana's story for you and even me to find....or maybe even write.

I resumed his password, and then he asked me, "Good, now what should I select on the screen menu?" My job was dealing with the password access, but the caller needs to know where to go next. I'm impressed, dude. I've seen a lot of people do this quiz and fail hilariously at it. You really did surprisingly well with those tiny eastern New England states, those usually trip people up pretty bad. You're right that Indiana comes from Indian. I believe the literal translation is actually "land of the Indians" Colorado is literally just Spanish for "the color red" cause of the red rock there. And Nevada is Spanish for "snowy place" because the Spaniards had come up from Mexico and compared to that region it does snow a lot in Nevada, particularly in the mountains. In college when joking about not doing well in a class or when talking about a class that we didn't really care about but still had to take we'd say, "Cs get degrees!" because a 70-80/C is still a passing grade. 60-70 is a D and while that's not a fail, you'll still have to retake the class for a better grade if you don't want it to count against you. That’s pretty dang good for a first attempt. It was great hearing you think out loud, you had some pretty good deductions for states you were unsure of. I’d be interested to see you try a quiz that doesn’t show the correct names after wrong guesses👀

You did great! And I am happy you got Oklahoma (my home state)! I was taught the states and capitals in 3rd grade and can still do them along with the 5 inhabited territories and DC so I’m not really sure it’d be appropriate to compare my doing the test to yours. I did go do the European test as you asked and got 100% in 2:42 (would have taken less, but had ads pop up that I had to close because they blocked part of the map). Again, I don’t think that’s a fair comparison since 1) I had an uncle from the UK and a great aunt who traveled a lot around the world with my great uncle, her husband 2) I was my state’s geography bee champion in 6th grade…I won a National Geographic board game with a map for the board that was outdated not long into the 1990s with the unification of Germany, end of the USSR, break up of Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia, etc. So I had to relearn a lot of countries. Honestly the trickest ones for me are the island nations in the Pacific and Caribbean as consistently get a few mixed up and haven’t learned any tricks to help me remember better (a trick a teacher taught me when I used to get the Dakotas’ capitals mixed up was that just as the state names North and South are alphabetical so are the capitals: Bismarck is North Dakota’s and Pierre is South Dakota (B comes before P just like N comes before S). Same with remembering the Baltic states: Estonia comes before Latvia which comes before Lithuania so from top to bottom that’s the order they’re in on the map! Otherwise I do pretty good at identifying countries on a map. Though don’t remember all the capital cities. I’m not Barbs from Geography Now channel who can do it blindfolded! As a kid I used to struggle with Africa, but as a teen I had some penpals from a few countries there (had penpals in Europe and elsewhere too) and that helped me want to remember them better. But still cannot remember all the capital cities, especially since a few have changed them over the years. I do remember that South Africa technically has three capital cities and really that’s just a neat fun fact and that’s why it’s stuck in my mind all these years. I think getting a 74% on your first try is really excellent. I’m pretty sure as a kid on my first try it wasn’t quite that high of a score, though you saying you remember from shows and other facts certain states is similar to how a lot of us initially remembered the states we did as kids. At least that’s true for my classmates and I. Like we knew ones we had family living in and ones tv shows, films, etc that we liked were set in. But that still leaves a lot that we didn’t initially know and just had to practice learning and remembering. So yeah excellent job! And yeah, I know the dumb American stereotype. Trust me, I’ve worked with some fellow Americans who make the stereotype seem kind in comparison. Then again I have worked with some nonAmericans who were doing a great job at emulating the stereotype as well. Thankfully I know that there’s plenty of intelligence variations throughout the world. Honestly it’s not intelligence that I worry so much about (though I’m not dismissing the importance of intelligence) is the level of curiosity. I am often bewildered by people who lack any sense of curiosity for the world and everything around them, or even about themselves. Again, such people don’t seem limited to any singular place.

Thank you for dredging up a traumatic memory of mine. In junior high school, my social studies teacher used to call me up in front of the class, hand me a pointer and ask me to locate different states. I can still hear the laughter of my fellow students. I take great solace in the knowledge that the teacher is long dead and buried. So, in a way...I won.

@@DavidLS1 dark 🙊 your memory is that she did it only to you, but that horrible teacher probably did it to a lot of the students. Still, a teacher that bad does traumatize children for life. Tell me, do you travel the US as an adult, or do you avoid all those terrifying places?
