I can see it beimg reasonable to tell the chef some of these things just so he knows you're going to be away from your station for a minute or an order is going to take a bit longer, but yeah, most of these are ridiculous. "Hey chef, I'm out of sauce and I need to make more to finish this order. It's going to take a couple minutes." "Hey Chef, I need to take out the trash real quick - back in 2 minutes." "Hey Chef, dishwasher's out of detergent. I'm going in back to get a new jug."

From the comments I see that this actually does happen it’s kind of scary. I used to work fast food for about a year and I had a coworker who would show up high AF all the time one time it was really bad and she couldn’t do anything, so finally, they ended up sending her home. They tried putting her in the back to do dishes but she messed that up big time so they sent her home. As they probably if she hadn’t been trying to talk with the drivers as they were trying to come and go that they probably would’ve kept her that day. At least she made it interesting around there. There was never a doll moment when she was working.

It's one thing to have customers ask stupid questions but if your staff is doing it, you got problems. If I worked in this place and had the ability to do it Mason would be fired. If I couldn't fire him myself I'd be telling the employer to either fire the incompetent person or I'd quit. And I have had that conversation before, not in a restaurant but it also helped that I wasn't the only one who filed a complaint about the incompetent employee.

As hilariously stupid as these are, I kind of get it. I've been yelled at before for doing "obvious" things in jobs because it's "not important right now" or "not your (my) job", but then if something isn't done, I get yelled at for slacking off or not taking initiative and finding things to do when I'm "not busy" (even though I am). It's a no-win, and I'm glad I don't have the kind of job that abuses people like that anymore.

How can 86 mean 0?! That's mathematically impossible!
@peterschutzek325
9 ай бұрын
It has nothing to do with math. There are different stories why "to 86" means "0". There was a Restaurant in New York during the prohibition in the 86th Bedfort Street. Corrupt cops warned them in advance before a search. the bartender then yelled 86 everybody and they fled the restaurant. The other one is from the military. It is a code when something is to be discard.
@RJones-tn5vg

Here's the thing though: if hourly workers walk away from the line to empty the trash or get more detergent or go to the walk in, they get in trouble for leaving. So then they announce or ask if it's ok if they do stuff that desperately needs to be done. Also, Kevin is drunk and sending him home shouldn't matter if the restaurant is busy or not because he's going to get in the way and mess stuff up anyway.
