Crockpot oatmeal tip! Put a smaller (oven safe) baking dish in your crockpot - one that's more suitable to the amount of oatmeal you are making and then add a cup of water to the crock. One of the big issues is that the amount of oatmeal made tends to be dwarfed by the crock (unless you have a really big family or a mini crockpot.) Since the crockpot is calibrated to heat a full one it helps to offset the heat. This is a Stephanie Odea tip back from... 2008? I think? The blog is how I started making crockpot oatmeal.

I used to make overnight steel cut oats. It's not your particular crockpot--many do this with this kind of recipe. One workaround is to plug the pot into a light timer so it runs only 3-5 hours on low. If you're not comfortable leaving the milk out at room temp that long, use water and just add a splash of milk in the morning.

Howdy from Texas! The cranberry chicken reminds me of the apricot chicken that my grandmother, then my mother, and now I always made/make. Three generations - WOW!! Anyway, it was a cut up chicken that she salted, peppered, and layered with onions. She baked the chicken for 1/2 an hour, then added the "sauce" which was one envelope onion soup mix, a bottle of Wishbone Russian dressing, and a jar of apricot preserves, whisked and then poured over the chicken and baked another 1/2 hour. There was a "dry" period in which we could never get the Russian dressing (thank heavens I can get it again), during which we substituted - you guessed it, FRENCH (or is it Fransch 😂) dressing. We always ate it over mashed potatoes. Like I said, my grandmother and mother always cut up a whole chicken, but I usually always use chicken tenders. They bake in half the time!! I never thought about using a crock pot for this! Oh my GOODNESS, that would be SOOOO much easier!! I also want to try the cranberry instead of the apricot. That would be great for the fall months, and cranberry is so good for you, especially cranberry sauce - yes, the OFFICIAL kind that has can rings - my table knows no other!!!😂🤣😂 I think I'll stick with the Russian dressing, though. If you haven't tried it, you might want to give it a thought - it's lovely! Thank you so much for sharing these recipes, I'm not good with coming up with crock pot stuff. We always had a crock pot but never used it, so I don't have any "heritage" references, nothing to go by. I'm physically at a point where I have to find ways to make things more easily. Dump and go sounds right to me!! So thanks again for sharing!! 💖💖💖

All really good, love your families reaction to all of the meals, you feed them well and you can see how much they appreciate it! :) The rice dish that you made reminded me of a dish I do called Baked Rice Pilaf. It's very similar to what you did except you cook it on the stove just for a few minutes first so that you can also caramelise an onion diced along with a bit of garlic, then add the rice and the stock, allow it to cook for a few minutes and then transfer it to a baking dish, covered, and cook it in the oven for about 25-30 mins. I know the point of this is that you are using your crockpot but you could add some onion and garlic to your version and see what you think of it, just really adds something and takes it up another level. Also, you add the butter to this afterwards and just kind of fork it through once all the liquid has absorbed, really nice though so would love it if you'd try it sometime. Think the way your family are with garlic you'd like it! :)

Place roast in crock. Sprinkle both pkts of seasoning over the roast to coat well. Place stick of butter on top of meat. Pour entire jar of peppers and liquid around roast, careful not to disturb seasoning. I don't add extra water, it doesn't need it. This is very similar to the Mississippi Pot Roast recipe that is all the craze. I believe it uses a pack of Au Jus instead of the italian seasoning pack. Also, the 1/4 of reserved juice is what is supposed to be added to the recipe as the peppers are supposed to be drained. The way it's worded makes it seem as if that 1/4 will be used later for something. I prefer more liquid as it adds more of a tang. Thought I'd clear it up in case others had questions or don't prefer such a tangy flavor from all the extra juice. My family isn't a fan of peppers at all so I recently made a chick roast using 1 pack of ranch, 1 pack of italian seasoning & 1 pack of brown gravy. Combine that with a little water or beef broth & cook in the crockpot all day. My crew preferred it that way. I also add potatoes & carrots in with the roast to cook all day. Love that you tested these recipes out. Would love to see another video testing others from Crocktober.

For crockpot steel cut oats, I have to add double the liquid than what they typically call for to keep it from doing that. You can also COOK it with water and drizzle on some half and half or cream when serving instead of using a whole bunch of milk from the beginning. I mix in some vanilla extract with the cream to make it extra yummy! Also, since you already have a Dutch oven, you could start the oatmeal on the stove top and then stick it in a 350 degree oven. Turn the oven off and let it cook with the residual heat overnight. Absolutely no burning! Might be a little thick in the morning, but you can just stir in some extra liquid of choice to loosen it up. I would suggest cooking with water for this one, though.

Spot treat, leave for a 5-10mins and wipe off with a soft sponge.. Make sure to pre soak the dish in warm water, so the dish is warm when the paste goes on, it helps loosens the stains🙂

Cranberry chicken is excellent! ... But I have seen this recipe before . I have made for years a recipe I found in an old cookbook called "Hurry Up Chicken". It is lipton onion soup mix, Russian Dressing - instead of french,. And apricot preserves instead of cranberry sauce....it too is excellent! You can also make it with orange marmalade! All the above a easy and delicious! Tip, catch all your ingredients on sale and buy a couple of bottles of each to have ahead for quick meal! After all....just dump into instant pot and cook some rice...how easy is that!

French dressing? Pepperochinis? Onion soup mix? European fan confused 🤷🏻♀️

If there's no such thing as French dressing where you live, there are easy recipes to make a small batch to have on hand. Pepperoncinis are a type of mild pepper, usually bought pickled. They're also known as Tuscan peppers, sweet Italian peppers, or Greek peppers. You could substitute with any mild pickled peppers. Onion soup mix can be substituted with dehydrated onion or onion powder and some powdered bouillon or other all-purpose seasoning mix.

The first recipe is impossible to make in Europe. The only thing that i can buy here is the chicken. There are so many great American recipes that you can make from scratch but many Americans love using cans and jars of things that are hard to find outside of the US. Try finding frozed orange juice concentrate ;-)

We call the beef recipe Mississippi roast..we make it the same and add a packet of aju. You don't have to add extra salt between the ranch and aju. You can also serve over rice. You can use really any kind of tougher beef like a top or bottom sirloin

We call that beef roast a Mississippi pot roast and we use Lipton onion soup mix instead of Italian seasoning and don't add water. But yes, it's absolutely delicious!

Acetone will take the stain off of your ceramic but it will also strip the coating. Try using 91% isopropyl alcohol and coarse sea salt. Works for glass, it may work for that.

I love the new countertops and backsplash!! Maybe I’m biased because I love white and light kitchens, but I feel like they really brighten up your kitchen!

Soft scrub with a gentle scrub pad will remove the stainon your casserole dish. ajust gently scrub until the stain comes off.

Take a Brillo or S.O.S. pad to your casserole dish that you fixed the rice in that you paired with the first crock pot dish (the cranberry chicken) in order to get whatever got baked onto the rim.

Pickles and dill seed instead of the peppers are very good also. You can make milk gravy with the juices.

Use oven cleaner on your stained casserole dish. Found out years ago on a pyrex dish that I couldn't scrub clean. Been using it on glass dishes ever since. Works great!

You were cracking me up with the movie references. Drop Dead Fred and Beetlejuice were 2 of my favorites as a kid (love the tshirt BTW)! And yes, flies are horrible this year (I live in Ohio). Everytime I let the dogs out, at least as many flies come in!
