They should donate stuff to Salvation army to help people in need. We lost EVERYTHING to a fire Monday morning. We got out with 4 of our pets and only what we were wearing. Just our pajamas, no shoes. Corporations should be ashamed. We would take that stuff to replace what we lost, and be very greatful.

I’m so glad you are exposing this corporate wastefulness. Hurts my heart to see such waste. I looked at that recliner and imagined a woman in a battered women’s shelter laying with her child in it or, yes, some elderly person in a nursing home relaxing in it. Such a waste.

I feel that the waste has more to do with tax laws. I mean the reason much is thrown out is likely because the stores get more tax credit from damaged items than from donated items. Also these videos are creating light to a hobby I love, hence more items destroyed.

You talking about that slashed up chair reminds me of my old neighbor. He worked for a government program that provided furniture, etc. to homeless people he was trying to find homes for. I once had a daybed I was using as a sofa. I finally got the sofa and asked him if he knew anyone who wanted the daybed. He said yes. I said it needed refinishing and some other work. He said, “you don’t understand. These people have nothing. They are sleeping on the floor.” Steph, you are so right. But I’m sure the store was told to do it by their corporate office. Everyone is so afraid of getting sued if someone got hurt using the product that was donated. I used to work in the bakery of a grocery store. The night before it expired we had to pull all bread expiring and throw it in the trash. I asked if we could donate it to soup kitchens, etc. They said no, fear of getting sued if someone choked on the bread, etc. The manager said for awhile they were able to give it to a pig farm, and when corporate found out they made them stop that too. A lot of time people think stores are mean, etc. to not donate food, clothing, etc. but it is the corporate offices that are stopping the local stores from helping their community.

@@jillygirl2024 I completely understand not donating things that are broken or damaged or under recall, but there's no reason they couldn't donate this year's Easter decor, craft supplies, clothing, shoes, etc. before it hits the dumpster, especially if it's in good shape. What sort of liability can there be in donating stuffed bunnies that are perfectly fine? They weren't on recall, they were perfectly fine before Easter so they're still fine the week after, they just didn't sell & they have no space to store that stuff for next year so I do not understand why something like that couldn't be donated instead of trashed in a dumpster or ruined then trashed?

Pet shelters love old blankets, I did a major purge a few years ago, and had (a lot!!!) of old blankets, sleeping bags you name it. They use them for bedding, and don't feel guilty about turfing them when they get soiled.

I worked for a big chain grocery store in the deli and at the end of the day I was required to throw away a garbage can full of cooked food everyday. Regularly I was yelled at for marking down the food to reasonable prices closer to closing time. I was a single mom with 2 children. They gave me 32 hours a week, so they would not have to pay me benefits... and we never had enough food. I personally could have used the food to feed my kids. We have a sick corporate based world now, where corporate shareholders are more important than anyone else.
