Technically it's not a fan-made remaster, it's an opensource clone of the Westwood's game engine which requires the data of the original games to run them, just like if Julius was able to run the other Impression's game.

I'm hoping that E:BFD will get rereleased one day, one way or another. Quite possibly my favourite RTS game of all time (Dune2k is likely second for me) but it doesn't seem to work on new computers anymore 😔 Between the unit design, soundtrack, level design and extremely large storymode as well as the comically bad unit pathfinding (featuring the Harvester's "I need to pee" dance), this game is so underrated IMO. Ofc, some things are abit *too* strong (ahem, laser tanks and minotauruses) but I'd buy this game in a heartbeat if it was rereleased on Steam and worked on Windows 10. If it was supported enough and maybe given a couple of balance changes, I could see it being a very interesting game for multiplayer.

We were lucky enough to have both Dune II, and HZ for the MD back in the day. To this day, I still play Dune II. Have you played the Razor mods btw? Definitely check them out if not. HZ never really did it for us - probably too complicated for six year-olds (or at least seemed less so than Dune!). HZ only really got a look in for rare two-player battles.

In Dune 2 you were able to kill the worm. In this game I had the entire legion of tanks and rocket launchers to shot it and it never died.

I just recently played through D2k and Emperor (the latter really feels like a prototype for C&C Generals in both engine and controls). My approach to D2k was completely wrong since I took it as a 100% remake of Dune 2. That pacing is really nice and I said it before: Zakh is my favourite strategist when it comes to old school games. Reinstalling now!

Belated note that the Emperor engine is Xanadu, Generals' and later engine is SAGE and has nothing to do with Xanadu.

I remember playing WestWood's Dune 2000 before seeing the David Lynch film and reading any of the novels. It was a surprisingly competent RTS for a licensed property.

Yeah I actually know Dune from Dune 2000 first. It's good because Dune 2 basically invented the RTS as we know it and Dune 2000 is a remake of that.

voice acting of this game is crazy good, gameplay if a bit simple takes strategy to win, resource management is key, dune iconography and lore is pretty on point with the usual liberties taken for the sake of gameplay, amazing game

Awesome! I have the Dune 2000 Gruntmods edition. I believe you had made a video on that as well in the past. Is openRA better?

It feels kind of the same but openRA is still being developed, so I'd guess eventually this will be straight up better.

Another baby-face man! I shock people's foundational views when I tell them my age! Looking good, my dude! Looking at the Command and Conquer Remaster with my heart filled with hope. Would be amazing to tie in with the new Dune movie!
