i think stories this big should only be adapted as tv shows and not movies, gives more space for character development

I just watched your latest review (This one, about Dune) and I totally agree that the movie is awesome and I look forward to reading the book some time in the near future. Thanks for your review on this book and congratulations for the 1,000 subscribers. Let there be many more 👍

The book is fuller, the book is richer, the book is dense and quite hard to push through in places, it is a fully realised world and is quite rightly considered a masterpiece. It has a special place in my memories, but the characters really don't gell well with me. The film is gorgeous, it's a work of art. It's paced well and the time flew by. Lady Jessica is much more emotional and this humanised her for me and in this great epic saga helped root it. I've spoken to some people who had no idea of the story going in and it made sense to them. This is an incredible achievement, for all it left out due to time and complexity, for all the additional lore that wasn't mentioned it carries the gist and heart of the story. The deeper lore was touched on but in a way that felt at home to my knowing what was behind it but it wasn't jarring to those who hadn't read the book, so you didn't have to know about it. The decisions of what to include felt well chosen for the run time, even if it meant removing the build up of the suspicion of Lady Jessica. I especially loved the way the shields were presented, with the different colours so you knew what was happening. My only real criticism of the film was that Arrakis itself didn't have the same sense of being a character as I'd taken from the book. I never had the feeling of the desert being deadly, we were just told it was. Paul was wandering around in the sun and people just told him you shouldn't be out here it's going to be too deadly soon. Maybe it was because of the muted colours, but I'd have like to have seen something that shown he could wander amongst the palm trees... but when the heat of the sun hit it was something totally different. Apart from that I came away very satisified. Which is better? This is a tough one. For the different medium of film, I think this is the best interpretation of Dune we will see and it's one I am content with. It's tight story telling and a visual feast. It's not everything Dune has to tell. In the end I think the better of the book and the film here is the one which makes accessable this wonderful story to the individual reader/watcher. For me that's the book but I can imagine (for instance) my son enjoying the film and being able to talk about it with him when he'd have no interest in reading the book. That's a great achievement. Love your videos, and another great video, you should be way more popular than you are at the moment.

I actually started Reading Dune. It’s good so Far, also I plan on Reading the Five Sequels once I finish Dune. Also I saw the 2021 Movie and I loved, it became a Sci-Fi Classic to me.

Again I enjoyed this video very much. Now, I've read the novel I'll be at 30 plus years ago. I saw the David Lynch film when it premiered, and have been enamored with it ever since, watching it more than any other science fiction film I've ever seen, except for Logan's Run and the original Planet of the Apes series Yes I am old school. And yes I've watched the first six Star Wars films that much. But remember those aren't examples of science fiction. I digress. I haven't seen the new version of dune, I admit I have prejudice against it because of both the book and the Lynch film. There is an extended cut of the Lynch film, and I don't mean the television cut prepared by universal pictures. It is on KZitem. And, to me, plot wise, character-wise, I think it's very close to the book. And this is Lynch's version. If you've been left alone by DeLaurentis to create a 3-hour film, we may not be having this conversation right now. I have seen spectacle on the widescreen made with practical effects, which preclude my desire to see computer generated effects on the big screen. But I will watch Villanueve's version when a complete, director's cut, Blu-ray of both films is released, where I can ingest the whole novel at once. I'm more concerned with plot and character than anything else. Thanks again for a very thought-provoking video.

By the way, I understand being succinct and interesting, but I think that your concept for your videos could stand to be longer than 8 minutes long. You've got it going on! As my hero Mel Brooks coined "If you've got it flaunt it!"

BTW if you're taking suggestions you could maybe do a triple Rebecca comparison? Like the book, the 1940 movie and the 2020 one

I have the impression that the movie has this little too much purpose and drive to satisfy the book fans. The visuals, the scenarios, the atmosphere... as a movie, if one doesn't know the book, I think it seems a little bit off in terms of pace, plot and characters development. You don't get to connect with the characters, at least as much as you do when reading the novel. But again, I don't wanna sound like a book snob. Just saying... the book is way better.

Which is better? Most definitely the book! The books are always better. Despite how good two new movies were. I’ve already finished reading the first two books and I’m currently reading the third one. Read the books first before watching the two new movies. But nevertheless the books are always better.

@@AdamWrightReviews Me neither. Maybe someday I’ll check it out. It stars Alex Newman, won 2 Primetime Emmys, 9 wins and 9 nominations total. Looks as if that miniseries also did better than the movie adaptation from 1984. That one was… a sudden unfortunate letdown 😔.

Sci fi books are my thing. The book is always better. Comic books ill be the first to admit I loved and hated changes in the walking dead. You should read the silo series WOOL from hugh howey just saying man its really good stuff three books in the series and a short story. If you dont read it now im sure you will later after the tv show takes off to the moon. Its so good. It will be so huge. I got way way too many copies of it, a whole 5 shelf bookcase isn't big enough. Thank me later, edit over a hundred copies

Oh now I feel embarrassed that I couldn't even finish the book lol It just had a lot of obstacles to me? Like how the book just throws you into the story and doesn't hold your hand at all, it felt REALLY weird to me that whole "Well the Bene Gesserit selectively breed people! And that's that on that!", it also felt weird that *everyone* is so comfortable with their role in society? But ok, I was like "this is probably bc it's a book from the 60s, let's get past that" but then I didn't care about any of the characters at all. I read it up to the chapter that the fremen ambush Paul and Lady Jessica and they're like "don't run, you'll only waste ur water" and by that point I just wanted to punch Paul. Like yeah no shit you can't see the future sir, that's everyone. Anyways, I know that everyone LOVES Dune so it was probably an unfortunate amalgamation of things I don't like. The movie tho........ I think I said in previous comments that I'm a more visual person, and the movie is SO gorgeous. All the problems of -what's going on??? -I wanna punch Paul -The Harkonnen aren't threatening at all -This feels like a non dramatized history book, which I can't emotionally connect to Were completely fixed, ESPECIALLY the threatening part (there were some scenes where I was like "?? Is this a horror movie or?????") So hum yeah, I preferred the movie and if I have time I'll go to the cinema to watch again yeehaw 🤠
