The haters will flip. For part 1, the people who haven't read the book didn't like it as much as those who are true fans of the novel. I walked out of the theater for Dune part 1 absolutely astounded and really hungry for part 2, which wasn't even greenlit yet. For part 2, there are rumors of MAJOR changes to the ending and the characters involved that will really piss off a lot of book fans.

PART 1 AND PART 2 ARE THE SAME MOVIE (SAME BOOK). SO PEOPLE SHOULDN'T TREAT IT AS 2 MOVIES SAYING THE FIRST WAS TOO SLOW. IT IS 1 STORY BUILDING ON ITSELF, AND MOST OF THE ACTION IS IN THE LATTER PART OF THE STORY. I READ THE BOOK AT 22 YEARS OLD. IT WAS THE BEST SCIENCE FICTION BOOK IVE EVER READ TO THIS DAY, AND PROBABLY THE BEST WRITTEN BOOK I HAVE EVER READ, WITH ONLY LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY, THE HOBBIT, AND C.S. LEWIS'S PERELANDREA TRILOGY BEING NEAR THE SAME TIER.

It makes me sad that one of the best Books written has to be "hyped" as a good "Action Movie". Yes, action is great. But the story of Dune is so much more profound. But again, the meaning of what Herbert was saying will get lost in the explosions and the Star Power of the leads.

@@gordonleemovies Smart! That is definitely the right move! I donno why so many people say "you should read the book first" before watching the adaptation'. There are things that happen in the visual medium that simply can't possibly hit as hard when reading it in a book. Plus, this way your not going in with expectations that can massively impact your enjoyment of the film. And this isn't the case when in reverse, watch the adaptation before reading source material. -Oh and by the way, before reading Dune, i do have to warn you, that if u haven't read classic sci-fi before, "Dune" may not at all be an enjoyable reading experience if your not used to this style of story-telling. It focus almost exclusively on the inner thoughts, in-universe philosophy, themes, world-building, and dialogue, with far less emphasis on describing/depicting action or events the way moist books are written nowadays. So if it's too dense and arduous, don't worry - this book series is simply not for everyone. I loved it, but not everyone does - and that's okay.

TBH, I had no problems with the pacing of DUNE: PART 1. If anything, I think a lot of movies focus too much on action and move too fast. I have a long attention span and I like to see detail and nuance. Despite that, I'm pretty excited to see DUNE: PART 2's payoff to the first movie. It looks epic.

Kubrick's 2001 defined the Silent Generation and Star Wars was the defining Baby Boomer sci-fi. The Matrix was the Gen X moment. Getting a sense this will be the sci-fi moment for the adult Millennials and young Zoomers. I'm just an old Xer who's really looking forward to this !

Apparently we're not getting baby Alia in this movie. There's no major time skip like in the book. Nice vid. Who cares about the Oscars today; that organization has befouled their reputation for recognizing greatness and true art by inserting political and social cult viewpoints into determining a film’s greatness. The fans and viewers know it when we see it and pro reviewers feel it when it hits them in the face. This film, and #1 are the real deal.
