I appreciated the exploration of the messiah theme, but I was far more impressed with the craft (omg the fucking sound!) than I was with the storytelling. Timothee and Zendaya both gave Oscar worthy performances in my opinion (although I'd rank Timothee here third after CMBYN and Beautiful Boy). I'm curious to see if they'd get any consideration for actor and supporting actress - I doubt it, but with the 4.6 on Letterboxd, I think it's a possibility.

Brilliant Zendaya is the heart and soul of this film. And she is in it enough to win the Oscar for Lead Actress. Timothee' is a revelation and deserving of an Oscar as well. And of course, Genius Denis' deserves the Oscar for his astoundingly great work in creating this Masterpiece. And Greig for cinematography! Heck, OSCARS all around! DUNE: PART 2 is a film for the Ages.

I just saw it last night. I've got one main question, spoilers ahead: At the very end of the book, in the very last sentence, Chani's character is reconciled to Paul marrying Irulan. The Lady Jessica says to her, "You're the strong one, Chani. People will think we are concubines, but history will know us as wives." (From my memory.) But this dichotomy is never resolved in the film, which ends on a close-up of Chani's very distraught face. This is the betrayal you're talking about. Is it the only one? (But that's not the question that is the point of this letter.) Clearly, Paul's betrayal of Chani is just how Denis Villeneuve wants to leave Part Two to set up for Messiah. For me, Dune Messiah -- the book -- was the Two Towers -- the book -- between Dune and Children of Dune. This was the trilogy that Herbert created. Villeneuve had to juggle the films around, decided CoD was too far for him to go and has committed himself to turn Herbert's middle story into his end story. It's going to be a very different trilogy than Herbert's. The question is: Can Villeneuve make Dune Messiah a fitting end to a trilogy without changing the story too much? Spoilers for the books: Paul doesn't die until halfway through Children, but I think Denis Villeneuve is going to have to kill him off as the climax to Dune Messiah. What do you think?

Greta Gerwig on the same level as Nolan, Villeneuve? Barbie comparable to Dune and Oppenheimer? Remarkable!

I’m not soo confident in Cinematography: Top Gun: Maverick, The Batman, Avatar 2, Lord of the rings 2 & 3 were all snubbed for Cinematography. And I think ROTK won even at ASC & BAFTA
I agree that people throw the term "masterpiece" around to often, this is not the case here. This isn't a film, but an experience. I absolutely LOVED everything about DUNE Part II. Well done to all involved in this beautiful project.

It was extremely well made and enjoyable, but it was no masterpiece. Nowhere near as epic or emotionally engrossing as LOTR

Too much hyperbole with this movie. Personally, I actually enjoyed Madame Web/Argylle more than Dune Part 2.
