Christopher Nolan compared Dune: Part Two too The Empire Strikes Back! What do you think of that comparison?
@granchito

Makes alot of sense, both great sequels to two great franchises. Alot of similarities too, where the main character is revealed to have a familiar connection with the antagonist, and how the main character is also to be believed the savior.

That was my first point of comparison. Part One, despite being a big sci-fi fan, just didn't feel like it was for me. I liked a lot of the pieces but so much felt so disconnected and foreign/alien to me. I spent so much time trying to figure out the rules in One that I had a hard time with it while watching, and I didn't see the first in theaters. Two is absolutely amazing and is definitely one for me. So, it's definitely possible to not love the first and love the second. Can't wait for Messiah!

IT‘S ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT. No complaints, I know they switched around the story of Alia coming into the story (they waited for her to be born for the next episode) and that‘s ok. The book, she‘s already born and gets to talk shit to the High Bene Jes mom in the book before the Barron gets killed. I‘m ok with that because so many other characters got much more exposition and content (that lacked in the first book). The art direction, styling, Future Brutalist goth and Eco Seitch Brutalism is so fucking gorgeous. I couldn’t get enough of seeing how things were designed. LOVED IT SOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!

SPICE ISN’T THE FUEL!!! As it says in the first movie, it’s used by the Spacing Guild Navigators to find safe passage during space travel. I think you guys should go back and watch the 2000’s series and the Lynch film, as well as reading/listening to the book. A lot of nuances will probably make a bit more sense.

I thought the characterization made a lot of sense? About half way through the film you realize he's not the hero we thought he was going to be! You understand how they exploited the Fremen into waging an intergalactic war on a completely made up story manipulated and schemed by the Bene Gesserit for hundreds of years ALSO COOL TO SEE THE BLONDE MAUDE RETURN LOVE HER !! THANKS! I think that scene with the DesertSpring tears is probably an act schemed up by Lady J? We know the prophecy was pretty much a made-up story by the Bene Gessiret to control the masses. This act would just solidify it and another key point is that Lady J had to *force* Chani to administer the drop to him

I read Dune when it cane out. I was a very young SF fan and it blew my mind. Read it again many years later and even made it through a couple of later books. Finally I admitted that the story plodded. Symbolism bordering on allegory. I was noted Lynch was given an impossible task. The result had excellent amazing bits and some that sucked If you love Dune have fun. Not for me Oh, the spice was not the fuel of space travel. Despite Herbert's petroleum/ Islam parallel. The Guild Navigators needed to be zoned on spice to make spacing safe. So a ship would not jump into the middle of a star

Lovveeeeeddd Dune Part Two. Wowsers. Also saw it in Dolby like Brandon. Highly recommend!! I do wonder what they're going to do with Irulan and Chani in the Dune Messiah films. I just don't see Zendaya's take on Chani as (spoiler) being relegated to "concubine" and essentially, baby momma. This would be a terrible and reductive characterization that undermines all the work the writers and Zendaya have done here. I don't see her agreeing to that life. Also, I don't see it as a productive use of Florence Pugh's acting prowess to have her continue on to play what is essentially "the jealous wife" trope, whose only major role is (spoiler) sabotaging Chani's pregnancy. Again, highly reductive and basically misogynistic. Idk. I can't wait for the next few films, and am excited to see what they do with Timothee/Paul. And I hope they continue to think critically and creatively about the women in the story moving forward.

In 2008 fils Get Smart, the Rock played gay Samoan bodyguard, which was a silly role to do for himself and also his people had warned him against doing because they said it would RUIN his acting career... Also he was pretty silly character in the movie Central Intellegience, being funny and willing to stretch himself as an actor.

32:12 Grace Randolph makes a great point in her review that the Harkonnen culture isn't really BW; it just appears that way. The sacrificial lambs whom F.R. fights were* drugged beforehand, so the whole gladiator match is just a PR performance rather than a real stakes life and death battle. The Beast also shows his spine, or lack thereof, when shit gets real.

I am on Jordan's side here. I am not a fan of the first film, so even though this sequel was brimming with charm and spectacle, for me, there was a sepia-toned emptiness. Paul riding the sandworm DID NOT do it for me, because I have seen a similar (better) sequence in the first 'Avatar' film. It's okay, Maude, cinema is subjective after all.
