I stumbled on this video when I bought my fass lift pump and misplaced the install instructions. I know this video is 5 years old by now but it was life saver for me. So thank you. One variation I was forced to make was that the bed bolt just spun in place on my truck where the pump mount is fastened. My guess is the captured nut broke free so the bolt would not loosen. Now I had to install the mount without removing that bolt. What I did, and this may help others, is to weld a nut over the existing 1/2 hole that is directly inline with the bed bolt and about two inches away. That allowed me to run a 1/2 bolt through the same mount slot and secure it to the same frame member as the bed bolt. From there the assembly was much the same. Used some tire rubber to insulate the mount from frame to help keep things quiet. Piece of cake. No pics, but look at the bed bolt lying on your back with your feet facing the front of the truck. Trace left of the bolt two inches and you'll see the hole. Weld nut and chive on.....

When installing a sump with your lift pump (highly recommended) use the old fuel pick up line from the tank as your return line. A. Do not have to cap it off. B. Do not have to hack into your fuel tank fill line. C. Makes for a much easier and cleaner install! You will either need to cut the Bundy fitting off the fuel tank fill line adapter part supplied with the pump kit and hose clamp it on the fuel hose like I did temporarily. Or, better yet, order the right Fitting Fuel Line Quick Connector 1/2” Barb to 1/2” Bundy Male Tube. Parts dealer didn't have it so I found it on Amazon. This is the best install video I found. I would only recommend this edit.

To my own response now that I'm looking at how to route the hoses on my 2008 it would be much cleaner and very easy to run the return back and just plug it in to the original suction line from the tank. The FASS kit comes with both parts so I'll be plugging the return on the integrated BEAN sump and fortunately it also comes with that option and part provided.

Connecting supply to factory line works fine, adding a 2nd return keeps truck running/operating like stock in case pump fails. Leave system as intact as possible to allow CP3 to still operate, it might get you off the road. Adding a low fuel pressure sensor is a good idea. Add in a sensor to EAS of the Cts3 for easy integration

Not a bad install. Just a couple things. Wrap the Teflon tape correct way and for future you don’t need to put tape on flare side of fitting. The flare side will seal just fine. Doing good so will not allow a tight seal which could cause leaking or air leak on suction side. Recommended amount is 4-5 wraps. Specially on the side that comes from tank. The mark on tank side you said to line up with isn’t a reference mark. The mark is a -1 for when they modified the T block to have more flow. The new ones will have a -2. The side with two fittings is the engine port on top and bottom one for return. Try angling your filler neck more up than down. It’ll give you more space. The sump kit wasn’t a FASS kit. The hole may have been maybe a little big. The FASS sump is way better. Far as priming the system it was about right. Just don’t unscrew it as far. If you listen to the tone of the pump you can tell when it fills the water separator into the fuel filter. When I worked for FASS we would tell customers just replace both filter at same time. You will be surprised on how much junk gets in that WS filter. Other than that not bad. Hope this helps.

I'm not aware of any reason to install the stock fuel filter removal kit, in fact one of the mechanics I listen to (Aden at GOS Performance) says to run the CAT-1 filter (which uses an adapter) for additional filtration. The cleaner the fuel the better and with the positive pressure from the pump that should (no longer) be too restrictive.

Helps to add some dielectric grease on all electrical connections. Also useful to label the relay so later you or someone else knows what it's for. Spray some Rust penetrant up in there on the bed bolt. I welded up a shorter pump bracket and put on the 2nd bolt. That way it slides up high behind the filler hose and filters are hidden. Get the butt connectors with the heatshrink on there. There's also a heater element that can install right in the pump block and activate automatically to warm/thaw the fuel

If you go back to where you drilled the hole in the tank, you will see some factory raised lettering on the tank. If the o ring is trying to seal on top those raised letters, it will leak. Since you can't move a hole, I would sand down the lettering, until its flat with the tank. But you probably already figured all this out. I'm going to install this product on my 07. Great video.

For the life of me I couldn't figure out what to do with it. Good video man, been watching a lot of urs and u do a good job at em, I run a small garage at my house and thought of doing some videos as well,, just one thing I could help with,,, on the sump kits I would just find me and oil filter that the square cut oring was the right size and use it for the sump kit instead of silicone, no offense on the rtv but over time it will break down but u could use both the oring and the rtv as well,, but an oil filter ring is tough enough for tight applications plus has a flat edge to seal up nicely,,, Good video and I’m not trying to down put ur info just add another way to do it, thanks for all the videos and keep up the street cred lol,

Put my fass on 3 years ago had the 1/4 empty issue, so put sump on later. Hint I would not cut the filler neck, just run return line from fass into the tank with stock suction line. Also if you drive lots of gravel roads put something on filters to protect them.
@victorrader4349
5 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's what I'm thinking, unless there is some reason not to: that would be easy access and just plug it in. Did you ever have any issues or notice any additional strain on the pump. I have to go back and look but I don't think the original suction line is 1/2 inch ID which I think would be the only difference. I got the BEAN sump with the integrated return but on my 2008 there is barely room to squeeze one fuel up the side through 1 small gap at the top to go over the frame and I think the integrated return was more for convenience than performance. It's so tight I may have to run under and up on the tire side with zip ties and maybe encase it in larger hose (in that area) for protection (TBD at this point).

FYI, as far as using the tank's draw straw for the return I was just informed by FASS that is OK in the older models but for the newer models (I think he said 15+) they drop the tank and replace the "convoluted" draw straw with a smooth one to minimize the restriction. Since I have an 08 and the 95GPM pump I used the return and I can barely hear the pump even running and this was a very simple clean way to do it. My advice is to just check with FASS regarding your specific installation.

This is what I want to install next along with the upgrade manifold that ya showed . So , reasonable pressure on the sump pump and I guess adding the sealant just fer good measure . So this would also mean that the truck will have two fuel filters or as a friend chastised me for saying that vs a water separator. Ok , thanks for the detailed information.

Awesome video, wish I had it when I did my fass, I was able to put mine inside the frame. They give you enough hose to put it anywhere really! I thought about inside the back of the pickup also.

Glad I bought the fass sump with the integrated return. I didnt use the return I just screwed a brass plug into it but its bigger and has two o-rings and two bolts to clamp it instead of just one

GREAT VIDEO, FYI, when your putting on pipe tape, it a good idea to wrap it in the correct direction, so it doesn't get tore up as its being threaded in.

nice video, wish i would have seen it before i did mine. i got a 2001 lb7 dually and i installed the same fass pump, i didnt watch all the video, due to drinking to much whiskey at the time. however one thing i can mention is DONT use that blue crap fuel line. well i used it on the pump and the stock filter. i went on a 1500 mile family trip and found i was leaving a puddle when filling up, it was a broken zip tie on a fuel line, that rubbed caused the line to rub on a bracket. (it was a blue one, but ok) shortly after, removing the stock crap fuel filter head i was still smelling diesel fuel, (its a diesel duh) but i still had a small puddle of fuel under the truck where the stock filter would have been., those stupid blue fuel hoses failed again due to dryrot (within a year) and were leaking fuel with the key on and the fass pressurizing the lines. i replaced all those blue fuel lines that come with the kit and have not had an issue since (about 3 years now) otherwise a great pump, just no luck with those fuel lines

Great video but do yourself a favor and get some wiring pliers, u can get a nice set of Milwaukee ones for $16 and use some shrink tube instead of electrical tape it creates a way better seal!

Awesome video!!! This has answered every question I had. Love the channel. I also found a sump by XDP that has a return built in so if you don't want to cut your fill tube I would check them out.

Hey man, just wanted to say thanks for the shoutout!! Great video once again. Great instruction....I would move that inside the frame rail for protection and to hide it. But I look forward to doing this...and once again...you are the go to on the subject. No one comes close to your detail!

Been a long time subscriber and I'm looking into installing a FASS pump on my 3500HD Classic, so I was glad you had an install video. Just had one question. 19:42 you show your fuse box lid and it shows a 10A fuse for ignition but you pulled a 25A out of there. Is there a reason for that? I'm not at my pickup right now so I can't see what I have.
