I got my LLY in 2014 with 76k on it. Still drive it everyday with 220k on it still runs great. I had to replace the water pump around 170k and the hydroboost around the same time, both leaked on me but hydroboost was easy to change, the water pump a little more involved but do-able for the skilled DIYer.

5280 Jeff correct, but hard parts are identical. I have an 06 lbz and an 06 lly. There was a difference in head gaskets, one was riveted and one was pinch welded i believe. The tuning difference was simply due to GM waiting on the emissions to be passed on the lbz. Its easy enough to get the dealer to put the lbz tune on the 06 lly however, so the tuning is kinda a moot point. Kudos on the comparisons. Very informative.

Had wanted to get the 2007 LBZ when looking to pick up a diesel. I liked the OBS over the NBS. No luck whatsoever in my area unless you wanted to travel several 100 miles to look at one, and then they were pretty high priced. I was driving an 05 3/4 ton gasser that looked just like the one you have now. Found a 07 NBS with LMM that had just been traded in on a brand new Silverado. The truck was local, serviced local, and very well taken care of. Price point was in my range. Still need to take care of some things on it, but I was extremely satisfied with the performance of the diesel. So I guess I also represent the Love My Motor group! Egr isn’t used to “reburn”. Cooled exhaust is an inert gas that is put into the combustion chamber to lower combustion temperature and that reduces nox. Nitrogen oxide. Not to be confused with nos, that’s nitrous oxide. One is a deadly pollutant that will kill you if you breath enough of it in, and the other is laughing gas.

@DastardlyWaffle Not to mention that the computer knows what proportion of exhaust gasses are entering the intake stream (assuming your valve and sensors are working correctly) and adjusts the fuel requirement accordingly. Assuming all other intake sensors are working correctly ( MAF to intake manifold pressure) you will use less fuel and make the same power. Remember, almost all emission controls function below 1100 rpm and most of us are towing and making power above that number. Keep on making classy comments full of knowledge brother!

I bought mine in febuary of 18 with 148K on it for 13k ended up putting injectors in it at 155K but now its a really reliable truck Id tow anything across the country without hesitation. if you buy an lb7 see if the injectors have been done and make sure their is paper work! also see if you can hook a cts monitor up to it and check the balance rates that's a good way to tell if they are going out also look for blue or white smoke coming out of the exhaust. check the top radiator hose make sure its plyable if you cant squeeze it after its been ran then it has bad head gaskets. if it checks out and its a good deal then do it they are awesome trucks and run even better tuned but make sure you put a fass lift pump on it to extend the life of your injectors

The LB7 is the strongest Duramax of all the years despite the injector issues. Injectors can be changed out on the LB7 in a days time. Instead of buying rebuilt injectors, have yours rebuilt and save half your money. The common issue with these injectors was cracked bodies. Bosch fixed that. The second issue is the VOC nozzles. Now they are making SAC nozzles and are showing great success in longevity.

funny enough I'm looking at an '06 2500 with LLY code 2 motor and the guy reckons its 360hp but his rpo says LLY (300HP)....I thought the block/rods/piston mods/extra ponies didnt happen until the LBZ engine and I understand the last LLY's used the 32 bit tune ,same as the LBZ but were basically the LLY engine still at 300hp. Then i read on Kennedy's website to regard the 06 LLY as an LBZ when ordering any tuning/parts as they are physically identical..!wtf!.....does anybody have the definitive answer what this 'crossover' engine is .....I might just buy it anyway because from this vid, there isnt really a bad model of Duramax now the injector issue has gone away.....no more needy than my old 6.5td , which is still here, very sorted and very reliable.....I'm just ready for some more power, just not with the 6.5...you know how those come apart..

brycejcox he said it's not supposed to be a discouragement in purchasing just because 50 hp drop. Because you can tune the truck.
@brycejcox
6 жыл бұрын
I understood what he said, but you can tune all of them!!! (not sure about the L5P yet, but give it time) Therefore If 50hp isn’t a big deal, how can 32hp be huge?
@brycejcox
6 жыл бұрын
And just to be clear, I’m not trying to snag the guy with a “gotcha” bs comment, cuz I’d bet money he’s already forgotten more about Duramax diesels then I know. I just found it funny.
@TYguy6090
6 жыл бұрын
brycejcox well in context he said that's huge because it's coming on a stock truck and those hp numbers are about the same numbers you'd be getting on a younger gen. Fully tuned
@brycejcox
6 жыл бұрын
TYguy6090 I understand what he means. But my point is if 32hp is considered a significant jump, then 50hp can not be considered “no big deal” because after you tune it you’re still 50hp higher than the other one. 50hp is 50hp regardless of year, powertrain, tune.

Well you have a lot of good and correct info about what the differences between each generation of engine. However, you are not correct on the operation....or rather the purpose.... of the EGR. EGR recirculates and cools part of the exhaust in order to lower combustion temps. Lower temps mean less nox gas (nitrogen oxide). You did ok describing DPF systems. So we'll leave that for now. But........The SCR....the system that uses DEF. Does not run the DEF through the engine. It runs it straight to the SCR. Actually the DEF system is the least harmful to the engine than both of the other systems.

EGR is added to cool exhaust to reduce NOx emissions. Hotter the burn mor NOx less particulate. The cooler you get the reverse.

Just turned 200k on my lb7. Edge tuner, mbrp exhaust and s and b intake. I don’t turn my edge past stage 2 and I take care of my truck. A lot of issues come from idiots that need to turn up the tune and roll coal and then stomping on it at every red light. My neighbors 7.3 stroke sure makes a lot of noise in the morning lol

Prius? I guess it depends on how narrowly you want to define "pollution." Love my '04 LLY, don't care for the problems introduced with an EGR, but I would never try to sell anyone on the concept that my D-max NOx output is less than a Prius. Apparently the TDI scandal was impossible and faked then, and those weird university chemists who had published their data measurements on TDI output years before, suggesting there was a problem, just didn't understand chemistry like mechanics do. 🙄

I'd like your opinion... I have a '14 LML with 175k on it. I bought it with 20k on it and I use it daily. Im a pipeline welder, I travel all over the US (I'm from SW Michigan btw). At 85k I was out of state and my cp4 imploded. Being in an unfamiliar area, and my truck being my livelihood, unfortunately, my only choice for a quick repair was a dealership. Would I be correct in assuming they put another cp4 in it??? I wish I'd have known then, what I now know (from subscribing to your channel). Last spring I had new injectors installed by a local shop and the tech suggested an upgraded fuel pressure regulator with a double 40 micron screen... which we did. Since I've begun following you, I feel like I should have a lift pump installed as well??? My truck is presently sitting in a shop here in Connecticut needing a head gasket. (Fortunately I'm in-between contracts). I feel fairly confident that the mechanics know what they' re doing. What should I consider to be a fair price? $4-5,000?? Should I have them do both sides while they have the cab up?? Last question, I'm looking for a good Duramax guy in my area for when I get back home to Allegan, Michigan. I'd respect and appreciate your recommendation. Keep up the great work! Your videos and wealth of info is helping-out a LOT of us Duramax lovers. Thank you
