I've been a fan since Planet Earth (graduated hs in 1986), and Duran Duran is one of the greatest bands in pop music history. I even hate to describe them as "pop", because they're soooo much more. Sometimes I get choked up when I listen to them. They mean very, very much to me, and have always been a major influence on my artistic career from an early age. Thanks Nick, John, Simon, Roger, and Andy. You're all amazing.

The style and rhythm in this song is outstanding. Slap base and twang-pluck guitar may be stereotypical of the 80s, but in here it's so tight and syncopated, it's simply mesmerizing. Close your eyes, and you're there ..... standing at a suburban upstairs bedroom window, staring out into the deserted darkness, only street lights, wondering where the heck your life is going. Masterful.

I don't think these guys ever got their due for how really talented they were as musicians. Fashion and style were always front and center because that was the gimmick, and they killed. However, these guys could play. Period. Simon was the headliner, and he had the voice with which to hold court. To say that Andy was underappreciated is certainly true, but it was part of their musical style to not feature him; most of what we heard from him were three chords he was allowed to play because the band was so synth-driven, not to mention that solid rhythm section. Roger was an excellent percussionist, and John was a criminally underrated bassist. I also think Nick was not just a keyboardist; I think, in many ways, he was the bandleader. I can't help but think that he was as integral in the studio and as an arranger as he was as a band member.

My favorite band of ALL time (born in 1976)!!! Duran Duran has incredible talent and despite what the haters say, THEY WILL ALWAYS BE A # 1 MUSIC INFLUENCE ON ME. All band members are unique and as one, WORKED MAGIC!!! The thing that is cool about seeing Duran Duran live are ALL the Ladies that attend their Concerts. If I met an interesting woman there, that would be awesome. If I ended up eventually marrying one of the attendees, I would have the band to thank. By NO MEANS, does this justify that Duran Duran were a "Boy Band" due to their extremely high female fan base. They were all attractive young men to the teenage girls/young women at the time of MTV's Infancy when New Wave (New Romantic) was one of the predominant music genres.
