Hey, everyone, I'm back with the brand new video. I went to the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in October of 2023 and got to see K-28 #476 in the fall colors.
*476 was built in 1923 by the American Locomotive Company, also known as ALCO for the Denver and Rio Grande (Later Denver and Rio Grande Western) Railroad as a member of the K-28 Class. During World War II, seven of the K-28s were brought to Alaska's White Pass and Yukon Railroad in the early 1940s. But a couple years later, they were brought back to the USA and scrapped while 476, along with 473 and 478, were preserved. In 1981, all three were brought to the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and restored to operation. 476 was taken out of service in 1999 and put on display in the D&SNG Roundhouse Museum. In 2016, it was announced that 476 would be restored to operation. She was returned to service in February of 2018 and added to the roster of operational steam engines on the D&S. 476 was converted to burn oil on May 25, 2022, and is the fifth steam engine to be converted to oil, the first four being K-37 493, K-28 473, and K-36's 480, and 482.
*There were some things I noticed on 476:
*The return of the original Lunkenheimer 3-chime
*One side of the tender is lettered Rio Grande
