While the Durango & Silverton is most well known for their steam powered operations, the railroad offers train rides behind their set of newly purchased diesel-electric locomotives. Traveling the iconic 45.2 mile journey up through the beautiful Animas River Valley, these ex WP&Y diesels have made the D&S their new home.
Durango & Silverton 103 was built in May 1969 by the Montreal Locomotive Works (ALCo-MLW) and is classified as a DL-535E locomotive. 103 served the White Pass & Yukon Route from 1969 to 1992, when she was purchased by Sociedad Colombiana de Transport Ferroviaro. In 1999, 103 returned to the WP&Y, being tasked with providing motive power to the tourist trains there. She served the railroad well until May 2021, when she along with sisters 101, 106, & 107, were purchased and shipped to the Durango & Silverton.
