Our train continues through beautiful Colorado mountain scenery, following the course of the Animas River to the Silverton where the rails just stop in the street, no stop block, no station, the rails just end. Silverton is a real Wild West outpost. Cowboys on horseback driving a herd down the main street, drunken gunslingers and ladies of ill repute touting for business were all that was missing. Silverton looks totally authentic, even though today's visitors are more likely to be tourists, who arrived on the iconic D&SNGRR train up from Durango, looking for a souvenir or a bite to eat. Finally we re-join the train for edited highlights of the return trip along the highline, 400 feet above the Animas River to Durango where we watch the last train of the day arrive as the sun sets on an amazing day.
