Marty I've been playing guitar my whole life and I can honestly say I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am now if it weren't for you. I've been watching your videos since 2010 (when you used to record in front of that red curtain!) and in that time youve helped me learn everything from beginner 4 chord songs to guitar solos that I still rock to this day. My grandma passed away when I was 7. I never knew that she played guitar until I saw the guitar in my mom's closet. My mom told me that it was my grandpas that killed himself when my mom was 6. There was only 1 song that my grandma knew how to playe, I never got to here her play but my mom did. This song was dust in the wind. I don't get to touch the guitar but I have my own so I am going to learn how to play this for my moms birthday or mothers day. I think that this song means a lot to my mom because it reminds her of her mom. Thank you for teaching me how to play this it really means a lot to my family. Sorry, It was on the old pay site. It's pretty simple though. Play this same "Dust In The Wind" picking pattern on all 3 chords. Just fret a C7 chord at the nut and play the pattern 4 times. Then move the same shape up to a F7 play it 2 times. Back to C7 2 times. Then move the same shape up to an G7 play it once, back to F7 once, then back to C7 2 times. Then start over. It's a 12 barre blues holding one chord shape the whole time moving it up and down the neck always picking the exact same pattern. i believe this same picking pattern is also used on Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide".

It was puzzling me! So, I dedicated my weekend to fix the rhythm and I was only able to do it by using the first few seconds of this video and setting the playback speed to 0.5 and then to 0.75 and playing along 100 times. I noticed my timing was way off by doing that and I was able to fix it! Now my intro sounds very close to the real thing, but my fingers are bleeding hahahah.. Great tip for whoever is learning and having trouble after getting the picking: Slow down the playback time and watch his fingers!

I've been following you for years ... thanks for your entertaining way of teaching. I've introduced you to hundreds of guitars players in England and I've purchased many of your lessons. You are my "go-to" instructor - cheers mate!

From this to "Just breathe" by Pearl Jam is just a little step, could you do that please?

I know this is 4yrs later haha but I’m glad someone mentioned Pearl Jam here. Many of eddies songs are so easy to learn once you’ve mastered Travis picking (Just Breathe, Guarenteed, Toloumbe, etc)

Marty I have learned three songs with you so far. This is the fourth song. I don't ever comment on any KZitem videos, I think mainly because I spent the last 35 years in the Technology industry, but I was compelled to comment. YOU ARE AWESOME!!! My son and daughters heard me playing Metallica "Nothing Else Matters" and gave me a big complement. I learned it all from your videos. I have been messing with these guitars since high school. I play on an Applause by Ovations and a Epiphone Dot Natural. I had a Fender Mustang 66 back in the day. Thank you Marty for being patient and just down to earth. Obviously came from my generation. Stay cool. R. A. Bonifer Jr.

I have the same problem, im starting to think its a guitar design problem, possibly the guitar wood and/or strings have an effect that sounds more like the recorded version.
@karenpawling4205

Paul Jenkins I had the same problem with the rhythm until I figured out that when you play the first two strings together in the picking pattern, it is held for a full count and then the rest of the notes are 1/2 count. So it goes 1 2 & 3 & 4 &. Hope this helps!

The Original Dust in the wind Gets the Basic melody just from the 1,+2+2and +3and if you cont 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and etc. So the Notes on 3 + 4 +4and are just in the background and you thatsway you have to play them less loud. And offcurse you have to play nothing on 1and to get a quarter note there. Took me a while to figure out why it sounds different on my guitar too.

Just now watching this tutorial and learning Travis Picking. As you add to the pattern, I am reminded of that 80s game, Simon. This sounds so much better than that ever did. Also working on your "More Than a Feeling" lesson. Thanks for putting so much time, effort and care into these videos, Marty.
