She was so wee, 5 ft 3 inches and here she's wearing heals. A powerhouse of talent and style, simply beautiful.

She lit up the room when she came in... or any room for that matter. I just realized her smile is another one of her great assets. This lady is/was so captivating. What a personality. Was she really acting when she was Dusty i wonder, could she turn that charm on and off ? I cant get enough of her.

Think there were two sides to her personality. Think Mary O'Brien was extremely shy, kind, well read, cultured, generous, vulnerable, and private. But she had the incredible unique singer (and actress of songs) "Dusty" inside of her bursting to get out. Oh yes, she could turn on the charm and was so gracious and patient with interviewers. From what I've learned, a person with great sensitivity and a wide range of emotions (like many great artists). Yes, her smile AND her eyes were especially beautiful.

From the Don Lane Show in 1981. Don Lane had previously interviewed Dusty on his Sydney Tonight show back in 1967.

I don't believe her. No one gets bored with a successful showbusiness singing career. She left the business for another reason.

Her career was obliterated. Imagine performing on television regularly then suddenly your biggest artistic achievement (her Memphis album) flopping. That's a fall from grace that would make anyone want to leave the business.

As long as he talks so much, he should have asked her the obvious question....how does one become bored with being a star and leaves the business entirely for several years as she did? She is lying. She did not leave the business because she was bored...she left for another reason.

@@jackjules7552 Except she didn't have a successful showbusiness career as you mentionned in your earlier post. She was out of recording for years precisely because past 1968, her career had floundered. "Dusty in Memphis", considered her masterpiece, was a commercial flop and she spent pretty much the rest of her career trying to recapture her earlier success back in the 60's. She only got that briefly with that horrible record with the Pet shop boys then again was out for five years (and then died). Of course , along the way , she did great albums ( or more average) but they sold poorly , were badly distributed, promoted, the record companies either didn't care or were sold themselves , with new people coming in who didn't give her the time of the day. she had to switch labels several times. Hers was a very difficult career ( and marred by personal turmoil...). Needless to say , she was a great great singer.

There are many singers who no longer have hit records and albums but yet they never get bored performing for their fans. I just wonder how Dusty could be bored performing for her fans despite the lack of hit singles and albums after 1970. Diana Ross says that she loves performing and I never heard Miss Ross say she was bored performing for her many fans despite the fact that Miss Ross has not had a major hit since the 80's. @@ilovemovies725
