Neil Tenant has said that he and Chris saw George in Ibiza once and George had high praise for this record. It is indeed classic: which is more impressive considering how specifically topical and wordy it is. You can hear how Dusty manages wordy songs (which she always did so well): she sings it in syllables and with great musicality.

❤Also released 35 years ago today, on 13 February 1989, was another classic tune from another classic diva - Dusty Springfield’s “Nothing Has Been Proved”. Written for her by Pet Shop Boys it also featured in the movie “Scandal” which was all about the 1963 sex scandal in British politics. The single hit #16 and the original PSB demo of it was released in 2001. RIP Dusty.❤
