Probably one of the very best Dutch Tool Chest tours - a place for EVERYTHING and everything in its place. There is hardly any space that doesn't have a tool or two fitted one precisely fitted on top of the other. This is simply awe inspiring. I've been back several times to revisit your precision craftsmanship. Thank you for sharing.

The tool chest is great. From a video standpoint, I liked the angles, pace, and descriptions--very well made! I'm recuperating from an injury, and this made me feel like I was in the workshop rather than stuck in bed. Only thing missing is the smell of freshly cut wood. Thanks for making this.

Attention to detail as always. I love the use of magnets as in stage carpentry we use them all the time. Most all plays/Opera/Broadway shows you'll see, there's magnets that shut doors with such precision and they always create a great sound. Especially when mic'd up for audio. So good as always, Take care !

John Montgomery standard practice. Before the pozidrive straight slot screws were always aligned to the piece screwed on. As here horizontal, which is the lie of the handle and in the likes of door hinges vertical, following the door height. On door hinges the alignment also served to prevent paint gathering in the slot, (as it would if horizontal) as well as looking neat.

Well, that is a thing a man like me suffering WOD (workshop obsessive desorder) would think. by the way, this chest is a unique masterpiece! Greetings from Brazil

@warp9988

fantastic mix of practicality and beauty. I was surprised by the use of the magnetic holsters on the exterior, but the more I think about it the more sense it makes. It seems like a mix of a modern "kai-zen" approach (the tools have their places, and if you use those exterior ones frequently and they're visible, it's even more easily grabbable) and a time proven dutch classic box. I am going to experiment with a set of trays that go into a box, and when I work, I will leave the trays out somewhere visible. If I don't have enough space in my shop, then the outside of a tool box would be a great place for a lot of magnetic catches. I do plan to take a toolbox out and about sometimes with me, so I'll not end up with exactly what you've got, but I loved your tour and its given me lots of nice ideas. I'm stealing the rare earth magnet thing. I'm gonna go nuts with those. thank you!

Warp - for you tray idea, what about building a box where the trays slide out in different directions? For instance, two on the front, two to the left, two to the right. they could be still "at the box," but visible. I've got a picture in my head. May need to spend some quality time w/sketch up..... hmmmmmm

Always have loved this design. I just wonder if the guy ever uses these tools. Mine while not as well organized or clean have the marks of dozens of years of use. The handles on my chisel sets have years of grime rubbed into the wood. And even though I blow the tools off after most jobs there is always some sawdust inside. I love the tools and his "collection" of high quality, extremely expensive tools. He has more money tied up in his planes than I do in my whole tool box. But I never, never have seen a working mans tools and storage that clean.
@MartyBacke
5 жыл бұрын
I do use the tools. I'm not a tool collector although there are certainly some tools that I rarely use. I'm just a weekend woodworker so my tools don't get used as they would be by a professional. I like a clean shop so I tend to tidy up everything after a project is complete and I handle my tools carefully, avoiding the build-up of grime. Everyone is different though, which is great.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! One idea...can you do something w/ the lid to make it a drawing surface? either as a drawing desk or as a place to keep drawings in use? that slope just exudes drafting table...
@MartyBacke
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks :-) Regarding the lid, I have seen some examples where the lid is used as you suggest. It just doesn't fit my needs to do so.
@andrewwilcox2150
6 жыл бұрын
The slant would be nice for that, but then it gets in the way of accessing your tools. The beauty of the slant lid is you can't pile stuff on top of it which would make it a hassle just to open the chest. All of the flat surfaces in my shop eventually collect junk, but my dutch tool chest is always free and ready to be opened.
