Very good instructions and easy to see what you are doing. I have to make this same repair, and now I know exactly what I am up against. Thanks for taking the time to make the video and uploading it. My only negative comment is the 6.5-minute gap between the beginning and when you first put a screwdriver to the pedal. The history of things, what they cost, other models, your history using the things, advice on irrelevant things (beater pads) is all interesting somewhere in the video, but when you and I click on an unknown DIY video, the first thing we want to know is "Does this guy/gal have a plan?" While learning about Remo pads, I see a dozen other DW pedal repair videos to the side that may get me in and out of the lesson before this one begins. But that is more 'advice' than a complaint. Your instruction is great, I now know how to do it, and I am glad I didn't pass this one by. Thanks again!

Thanks for the constructive criticism. My first thought when making a video like this is that I am telling a bit of a background story to my subscriber base, that is why I never title my videos with "How too" anywhere in the title. None of my subcribers would find much entertainment in a drum pedal repair video without learning something about me in the process since my channel has little to do with drums. I'm glad it helped you and understand what you mean. You need to fix something not listen to stories about someone's drum experience. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the instruction vid, man. I just picked up a pair of DW 5002 doubles from the same era as yours, and I just replaced the older model hinges. Even for 1993 pedals, they have a ton of life left in them. I may need to get new springs, but these have enough life left to keep going, for now. Great vid, and beautiful DWs, man!

Hey man, great demonstration..I just received a mint condition, still in it's original box, DW5000 single chain pedal, just like yours as a gift from a frined who used to play drums..It was literally sitting in his closet in the box, untouched for almost 20 years He never gigged with it !..The only thing is that pedal hinge has become wobbly and unstable over time, but has not cracked, and it sways from side to side...I'm replacing it with the same hinge you used and it should work fine. cont.

We are an 80's Rock cover band. We do stuff like Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Ratt, Ozzy, Dio, Skid Row, Warrant, Judias Priest. etc. Metallica songs really weren't really a part of the 80's hair band era, but we messed around playing a portion of Enter Sandman at a previous gig and the crowd reacted very well, so we had to add it to the set. I also like Megadeth and Pantera and stuff like that too, but it doesn't really fit into this bands style.

thanks for your response..i'll try it and see what happens..i have a tama re-issue 30th anniversary Camco pedal as well, and love it, and it also sways a little, but not as bad as my DW5000..if this hinge still sways a little like my Camco, that's good enough for me..It will be my spare, as i already purchased another one of my favorite pedals, the new Tama Iron Cobra rolling glide pedal..I'll keep you posted on how it turns out ;) ! Cheers !

No. This kit was actually fully replaced brand new in 1998 when I sent it back to be recovered due to finish ply failure. So the kick heads are from 1998. The snare is satin oil so that didn't go back. I find that if you have a patch on the bass drum heads the are virtually indestructible. BTW I wasn't expecting a brand new kit and didn't realize it was for a couple of weeks when I noticed the the notes stamped in the drums were different and the date of manufacturing was new.

Yeah. You're right. I just didn't want to spend the money right now. It would have been 60 or 70 bucks for two delta hinges. I can still get the delta bearings later. I only bought one hinge at this point, so I only have 15 bucks into them.
@drmrboy666

Dino I would have gotten the Delta bearings on both pedals and when you decide to buy knew ones then you have some kick ass back ups!

There is just a just a little swaying due to the fact that the hinge does not have bearings. If I had to do it again I would buy the hinges with bearings. I have a newer double pedal with the bearing hinge and it is so much smoother and still has a single chain.

My question is, is there any swaying at all, even a little , with the replaced hinge, and the fact that it's a single chain ?.. I really want to use it for my week end gigs..Good news is, i didn't have to buy the hinge, as another buddy of mine works at my local music shop, and found a brand new one in his drum hardware parts container in the back of the store !..Guess i'm lucky :)...Any response would be greatly appreciated.. Cheers !

Only problem when using Loctite is if you use the permanent "Red" It will be virtually impossible to fix the hinge again because you won't be able to loosen the screws without using extreme heat. Make sure you use the "Blue" Loctite!

True. At this point 5 1/2 years later I would not recommend the lock tight. It's not needed. The pedals are still working after all this time.

I used these pedals a while ago, put them aside for functional issues and can't figure out how to adjust them or what might be the problem. The pedal tension springs are at the maximum setting and the pedal still feels far too lose to use with accuracy.

Anybody attempting to do this, beware that the heel plate and footboard are obviously aluminum and when you have steel screws in aluminum, they like to oxidize and join together. So it's not a bad idea to squirt some toilet bowl cleaner in the thread holes to break some of that shit up. Those screw heads will strip right out or they will bust off completely and that's not fun. Just thought I'd mention.

Good work getting that fixed. I got a deal on one of these on craigslist but it is missing the toe clamp and I can't find anything online about the toe clamp assembly. It seems like I need this piece www.drumfactorydirect.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=85_746_749&products_id=7576 But can't figure out how that would manage to stay attached without the second hole? Maybe you can provide some insight? Thanks
