Thanks for all these videos, they're a big help on refreshing my memory. A video you might be interested in making is one telling people how to edit the announcements file so that things like migrant waves and strange moods will pause the game. I've noticed that I'm not the only player that has been getting caught off guard by these events and even having artifacts made without knowing that a strange mood was happening. This seems like something Tarn will add in the future, like an announcement setting list where you can toggle pause and popups for any of the events but there's no telling when that might be. For those who don't know, in your DF folder for steam (or whatever itch uses) there is a text file called Announcements. Open it and you can customize whether the game pauses, a popup box happens and a few other things for any of the in game announcements like migrant waves, moods, attacks on your fort, etc.

I felt like you really brushed over the sea biome besides the aesthetic change, I was very interested to know what settling on the ocean was like, If it was viable to build underneath an ocean and if you had access to any cool things cuz of it

The only time I truly tried to do something in an ocean was an obsidian castle. At the time, I did not knew it's kinda traditional to try it. . Usually there are big saline aquifers, frequently heavy, in the layers under or in the vicinity of the ocean. Other than that, digging and building under it is normal. If the biome is temperate, it will probably become Ice during a portion of the year. If it's cold, mostly of the year. If it's freezing, it may be frozen all year, in practical terms becoming a glacier. . I did saw penguins in a frozen beach once. Quite sad you can't tame them, but they're still have some value multiplier.

ADVICE: GLASS IS ADDICTIVE. It starts with green glass and magma, and having fun with pots and everything being made promptly out of sand bags. It's practical! Soon you will want clear glass goblets, like we usually use in real life. Then suddenly you're clear cutting a jungle to make an Aztec pyramid of clear glass and neglecting all other industries. Your populace implores for more beds, but all logs become ash and then pearlash to fuel the evergrowing blue.

Could you do a video on mechanics? basic traps or other cheeky shenanigans you can work, automate, or otherwise- both with natural resources and only crafted? I'm a complete rookie, so without looking stuff up I'm not even sure what KIND of traps you can make, or even what I could reasonably expect to work. Thanks for all the info you've been working on already, it's made the game far more enjoyable.

Anyone know why my hunters won't hunt? They have a quiver, bolts and cross bow. Butcher station and are assigned to hunting. Played a full year 2 or 3 times without ever getting meat. I also never did see any wild animals roaming. "not sure if your supposed to" so maybe that's it? I have followed a hunter before when it says they are hunting and they just roam around and come back home.

Blind - please could you consider a Short video on the Labor - Standing Orders and Labor - Kitchen tabs? I am seeing quite a few new folks on the Discord saying they have no Plump Helmet Spawn for brewing and it is because they have cooked it all. There are other folks asking why certain workshops are doing things such as looming cloth because they don't know about the Standing orders.

Either wait until winter and do it safe(if your area reaches freezing temps) or mine straight through as fast as you can then make a largeish room under the staircase. Then you can smooth stone that leaks or replace any non smoothable materials with walls. There is basically no risk of drowning but a dwarf will not work in water over 2/7
@marcbennett9232
Жыл бұрын
This may not be what your looking for but my advice for a light aquifer is if you are going down into one just dig a small area maybe 5 x 5 then build walls. Then just expand one side at a time. If you are digging a hallway and come across one go slowly and build the walls as you go. Light aquifers are fairly slow and forgiving. They can still be dangerous though and you just need to get practice with them.

@joshuaturnquist5538

Easiest way; plump helmets. Ban them from cooking so you don't run out of seeds, they grow quickly and in every season. One or two 10x10 farm plots make a sustainable crop for any Fort, though your dwarves will eventually get bored of eating only them, so have a few smaller farms, fruit gathering, fishing, or hunting for a little diversity.
@acediadekay3793

@@joshuaturnquist5538 Yes, plump helmets is the most beginner friendly mushroom. Also remember to build a fishery if you are relying on fish, since dwarfs don't eat raw fish.

Consider keeping some animals, extending crops and permanent farmers and fishing can provide a lot of food short term but will often eventually run out.
@mendozakoby
Жыл бұрын
If you keep animals, you can set a monthly production order to milk them, and maybe a few orders to make cheese as well You can also try nest boxes with egg-laying animals to farm eggs, with the added benefit that egg layers like chickens don't need to graze
