I remember watching A Different World since I was little every episode. It seem like I grew with the show and these two became my favorite. I remember when Dwayne had a crush on Dr Cosby's daughter an it gradually changed to Whitley. It's still one of the greatest shows I've had the pleasure of watching.

Y'all remember when D'Wayne broke up her wedding and the Fabulous Diane (spelling?🥺) Carroll said "Die! Just Die!!" 😭🤣🤣 Whitley's mama was a mess 🤣🤣

Yeah only the late Dianna Carol from Dynasty could have played Whitley’s mother. She was a knockout but that is one of the all-time lines.

Dwayne kept Whitley grounded. She new what she needed. Innately. One of the greatest TV love stories ever., especially in the black community.

Whitley was the type of woman a man had to stand up to or she would run all over him. Dwayne stood up for himself but he was respectful. Whitley understood Dwayne loved her but couldn't be controlled so she got her act together when he had to put his foot down. She could be downright spoiled, bratty, and entitled and it's just not attractive to men with substance. That bullshit would've worked for her rich politician almost-husband who was just looking for a trophy anyway, but not the strong and grounded Dwayne.

I used to love those moments. Dwayne put up with a lot of isht (Whitley's personality made that a necessity), but he stood his ground as well.

One of the best TV romances. They really helped each other grow. They made mistakes and they had real arguments. Different world hit so many topics with care and this was just another one.

Tommy Davidson once said that he and Kadeem were the final 2 in the decision for the role of Dwayne Wayne, but Kadeem finally beat him out. Tommy was better off on ILC though. It allowed him to be more versatile.

This was back when TV actually had good examples of healthy relationships and families. This dynamic is exactly what we need in our society today. For men to be men, keep the woman in check with respect and love, and the woman to let the man be the man and the leader in the relationship while maintaining her beauty, elegance, dignity, and strong mind. I was pretty young when this show was on TV so I didn't understand it then, but I do now. The man and the women both in our society have become weak, with the man becoming more feminine, and letting the woman get away with everything and do whatever she wants, and the woman becoming more masculine always angry and telling the man what to do. The result is pure chaos. Regardless of how people view it, traditional values and roles are the healthiest thing for any relationship. Not because of misogyny or sexism but because it works! It just works. It's not rocket science and it's not a negative thing, it's a beautiful thing. The man was created to lead, the woman was created to be his helper. And they were both created to love, uplift, support, and grow one another. This dynamic is everything.

Everything but men today want to be the women in the relationships too. They want to be the prize and pursued. And sometimes use women for companionship, money, and stability.

I don't really desire to be just a helper or to be kept in check. In a relationship shouldn't both people be kept in check...shouldn't both people humble each other if need be? Why do I have to be the one who follows just because I'm a woman. I get some parts of traditional relationships but other parts I just don't

She dragged it down honestly. Bonet in my opinion never really identified with Cosby’s vision for portraying positive Black families and relationships.
