I met Grandpa Jones years ago at a bluegrass festival in Ohio, and he wanted to kidnap me. And heard me singing with my in-law's. And years ago I met Buck Owen's in California, but my point is, is that when I met Buck Owen's he was one of the most truly talented and nicest man I had ever met in my life. I've had the privilege of meeting just about every country singer from the 60s, 70s and 80s. I've also met a few of them that weren't very kindhearted at all,I'll not give out their names. And I've had the opportunity to get stuck in literal traffic gridlock next to the Judd's back in the 80s. But I'll never forget how down to earth Buck Owen's and Loretta lynn and several others of the country music family were. They treated me like I was just another family member. So I have to say,I have never met Dwight Yoakam. But if I was to ever meet up with him, I'm thinking that he would just be like another close family member and good friend 🙏🌿🕊⚘️💛

1 John 2:15-17 New Living Translation 15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. James 4:4 New Living Translation 4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God." I realize this is about Buck Owens but I have a story about Dwight. This happened some time back, about 23 years or so. I'm from San Antonio and was at the River Center Mall one Saturday and I'm walking through the upper level and I see this guy coming toward me with a blonde girl. He had on the skin tight jeans and a "Colt .45" baseball cap and being a big fan of Dwight Yoakum I recognized him right away. Dwight passed right by me and went into a department store with the girl. I was surprised that no one else had recognized him. Any way, I decided I was going to go into the department store and see if I could get an autograph. I found him n the store and he was kind of just standing around like he was waiting on the girl friend to come out of a dressing room. I approached him and just said "Hi Dwight". I felt like an idiot but he said hi back and we struck up a conversation. What a down to earth guy he was. he talked to me like we had known each other for years. His girlfriend finally came out of the dressing room so they were going to move on but he shook my hand and said it was a pleasure talking to me and off he went. I forgot to get the autograph but saw him later on the lower level of the mall and by that time people had figured out who he was and he was surrounded. He waived as we passed each other again.

I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God." For Dwight to sing with a musical instrument and wear a hat inside a church were huge ways Dwight set aside his religious beliefs in order to honor his mentor and friend, Buck Owens. Dwight is clearly a member of the Church of Christ who believes that we are commanded by the Good Lord to use the "fruit of our lips" to honor the Father and the Son in song. Dwight would have done this for no one else but Buck and it goes to show just how close they were. RIP Buck

David played a harp. The Bible mentions trumpets throughout scripture. Other Musical instruments like lyres and pipes are mentioned in the Bible. Instruments can and should be used to worship our savior.Psalm 98Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth; Break forth and sing for joy and sing praises. Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, With the LYRE and the sound of melody. With TRUMPETS and the sound of the HORN Shout joyfully before the King, the LORDPsalm 33 Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; Sing praises to Him with a HARP of ten strings.1 Samuel 18 It happened as they were coming, when David returned from killing the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with TAMBOURINES, with joy and with MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS. The women sang as they played, and said, "Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands1 Chronicles 15 Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the HORN, with TRUMPETS, with loud-sounding CYMBALS, with HARPS and LYRES.

I think a big clue that God appreciates instruments is giving Dwight and so many the gift of playing instruments so beautifully. There are many interpretations of scripture but I think it's wise to use the FULL counsel of God and not one or two scriptures apart from all pertaining to a topic. The Bible says to work out your own salvation, not for someone else to work it out for us. God bless...

Matt Beeman because the man who started the Church of Christ interpreted the Bible the way he saw it , not the way God gave it. Thus another denomination became born right out of a man's carnal mind . I believe God loves music. It's all in the Bible . Men come along and try to ruined it .

Let's clarify that.... the non-instrumental Church of Christ. There are also Instrumental Church of Christ, that come from the same Restoration Movement. And everyone else who commented. You don't know the history of either. You are rumorizing the church. So just stop talking about what you don't know.

I come to the garden alone While the dew is still on the roses And the voice I hear, falling on my ear The son of God discloses And he walks with me And he talks with me And he tells me I am his own And the joy we share as we tarry there None other has ever known I'd stay in the garden with him Though the night around me is falling But he bids me go Through the voice of woe His voice to me is calling And he walks with me And he talks with me And he tells me I am his own And the joy we share as we tarry there None other has ever known And the joy we share as we tarry there None other has ever known

I was raised in a Baptist Church and we sang this song often. I'm an atheist, but I have a soft spot for two things about that experience and one of them is a love for a few of the hymns. A couple of them are musically beautiful. This is one of them. I've listened to it like 5 times tonight.

I had first seen how hard it was for Vince Gill (Go Rest High on that mountain) singing at George Jones funeral and the comforting and caring way Patty Loveless stepped in and encouraged him -- i still cry every time I see it. I was so afraid that Dwight would break down and no one would be there to help him--He made it thru the song beautifully as well as his tribute/eulogy for his close friend and mentor, Buck Owens. (This was the first serious song I had ever heard him sing and it cemented my love and admiration for all his talents. I had recently saw him by accidentally when he joined Merl Haggard on "Swinging Doors"! I immediately did a search on U Tube and binged for hours - his dance moves were exciting & thrilling (I'm 79 but I wasn't shocked one little bit) I had screamed for Elvis but Dwight far exceeded his talents -anyone that said he was imitating Elvis was so unfair) (Johnny Cash had referred to liking the way he was "dancing with his guitar"- so funny. His voice and style are so versatile - every song he sings he makes it his own!! And wow! Fathering a child at 63 is amazing - he waited until everything was just right !! (Not long after 63 I had my first great grandson!!)❤
