Last week i had this idea! I made an earring with epoxy and some Orange, yellow and Green highlighter. It turned out great and under black light It shines like crazy. It's perfect for when you go to a disco or music festival hahahaha

A thought, back when I used to mix paint as part of yet another dead end job, we mixed via weight, and some pigments were effective even to the milligram. With the highlighters especially if nothing else, it'd be interesting to see how each color changes from just a drop or two to a whole or even more highlighters added to the same volume of resin.

According to Wikipedia, it's mildly radioactive, and in addition to some stomach medicines (in the form of bismuth subsalicylate), it's also used in paints (bismuth vanadate), and pearlescent cosmetics (bismuth oxychloride), so I guess it's reasonable that it reacts strongly to black light.

I'm no resin expert, but maybe bubbles at the bottom of the highlighter dyed casts were caused by precipitation of some part of highlighter dye that's densier than resin but also volatile, so evaporaded during curing

Yes, that’s what I was thinking. A solvent that’s not miscible with the resin, but is dense enough to drop to the bottom, then evaporated. If that’s the case then a pressure pot might not help. If it were straight air bubbles they would rise to the top.

I like "Dye Trying" as someone else posted. Personally I use Cocoa powder or powdered chalk for a string line to color my epoxy but I am always looking for other color sources and this is the only channel that I have found that will even discuss the subject. Man, Pepto Bismal, who'd a thunk it?

Pencil "leads" tend to be bound together with a wax, so you're unlikely to get it into a uniform powder. Still a cool concept though.

I was delighted to see this new installment of the household dyes series! I absolutely love this type of experimental video! For a future dye test, maybe you could try grinding up some cuttlebone (an internal shell from cuttlefish). They’re widely and cheaply available in pet stores because they’re a great calcium source for birds. They aren’t a household item for everyone, but most parrot owners have a little stash of them. Or a big one if you’re forgetful like me and keep buying more just in case you’re running low. As a bonus challenge, you could try carving into cuttlebone and using it as a mold. Jewelers have used them that way for centuries, although it’s not as common nowadays. It’s soft enough that it’s easy to carve into, and the interesting natural texture gets transferred to the finished piece

Peter I love shop time. These little coloring experiments I have done quite a few. Always in search of that one color that I can't get a hold of. I love resin. But my budget sure doesn't. However I still keep a hold of it, just when I want to play! LOL! Best of wishes to you and the Mrs. Lol! Keep those experiments going. Suggestion: FireCure! It is used to dye fishing bait and draw the fish to it since it is a brighy pink. I also think graphite would give a nice dark gray. Maybe try cornstarch or flour for white. Good job, and good luck!
