Very emotional to see such a proud giant beast to fall in front of a new economy. Blast furnaces are realy amazing man build machines.

Sad too see something that took so much effort to be built demolished, but noticed the additional furnace in the background still in operation, so hopefully these were just furnaces that had outlived their usefulness. Dykon's explosive crew did an impressive job of felling these giants accurately; that post-demolition shots of the precise cuts in the furnaces supporting beams by the shaped charges were equally impressive. Finally, to the editor - LOVE the music! Appropriately ominous! :)

@GetSmart008 what do you mean by froze? Do you mean the metal inside solidified and it couldn't be restarted?

Yeah, real awsome. Just like the jobs lost with the mill. Like Pittsburgh, PA and Wierton, WV. Damn Chinese steel and foreign imports!

100% of the steel in these "old beasts" was recycled within 1000'.... pretty good conservation.... thanks for the comments..... lg

Same here. No matter how hard we try we Americans in manufacturing keep getting stonewalled. We've been getting cheap steel dumped here for years and every time we put tarriffs on it the EU cried fowl. So when we began selling biodeisel in Europe cheaper than what they can produce it they pretty much made our stuff to expensive to buy. I guess it's only fair trade as long as it bennefits the EU. How can we compete in anything these days? We'll just let the world buy us out.
