Suck video. The only thg thing I really wanted to see was the connections on the wings and what was it you did off camera.....exactly that. If your going to do assembly videos you don't do any of it off camera. That's what folks watch these for....not just to hear you talk.

I can't believe this popped up today on my YT feed. I've been watching Maule videos all week waiting for mine to arrive. Spent most of the day yesterday building it. Literally a day late! I'm sure there's lots of good info here. This thing is more of a build and fly than a bind and fly. More building than I like. Only two sizes on the hex, one on the phillips. The tiny self tappers gave me grief. So did the screws for the left wing. One hour build my azz. I doubt that someone who builds for a living would get this done in an hour. And I pity anyone who needs to take the wings off for transport. Wheels for mine will hang in the closet. It is set up on floats. Cheers!

Hey there my friend! So the video popped up a day late and a dollar short! Actually, the video covers most of the same aggravations you describe, and yes, I'd say it's a bit more involved than your standard BNF for sure! I think you'll like it off of floats; I've never flown mine on floats, but know all sorts of folks who have and they all say the plane is a sweetheart on the water (or possibly even snow, depending!). In any event, thanks so much for checking in, and I wish you and yours a very Happy New Year!

As with any painted model, I would consider minwax, or future floor finish, or modge podge to seal the paint to prevent scoffing of the paint. Face it, that paint will dent, marr,scratch so easy just putting it in your car or truck. Handling your plane with kids gloves gets old fast. Minwax comes in semigloss, matt or high shine finish and holds up well under any condition. Use waterbased only. Future floor finish is great but leaves a high shine and you can even hit the windscreen to help protect it from damage, scratches. You can airbrush minway or Future but NOT modgepodge. You can also use a foam brush or regular brush. Modge podge makes a really hard shell and protects from dents and dings. I perfer minwax. Coat the entire plane making sure to not get it on any moging rods or in tubes that rods slide into. A tub of dollar store playdough can be used to plug any areas you dont want covered in sealer.

Great points all! It's good advice for those who may want to keep theirs pristine, but I personally don't mind a bit of hangar-rash...it gives it character ;)! I'm also a big fan of Minwax...especially on my belly-landers. Thanks for the thoughtful and helpful post!!!

Oh yes, I clear coat all of my foam planes before first flights with Minwax polycrylic, use 2 coats of gloss, semi gloss for warbirds. Clear coating makes the paint colors & decals look more rich & vivid, seals the edges of decals, so easy to clean dust off with a damp sponge. And the planes fly more efficiently because of the smoother more slippery finish. After years of use, all my clear coated foam planes still look brand new. I do gently wipe down the whole plane with rubbing alcohol first, but with the painted parts some of the paint will come off if you stay on it too long, so I wipe & dry the painted parts lightly & quickly with the alcohol & soft paper towel. I recently finished clear coating & flying my Cirrus, beautiful plane. Looking forward to the still in box Maule, it's gonna look extra sharp with 2 clear coats of gloss, will make all that red paint look even better.

Yep - just bought it. I justified it as a hard-earned Christmas present to myself :) I was attracted to the price for this type of aircraft and the fact they offer a PNP, if you are already into the hobby flying non-DMX etc. it's annoying to deal with the whole BNF thing.

@JustwingitRC

Hmmm....without looking at your radio, I have no idea how to help. I had no issues whatsoever programming mine. The flaps and ailerons are on entirely different channels...Are you sure you're not plugging in one aileron and one flap on each "Y" harness? If so, that's your problem. Each Y harness is for separate functions. One for ailerons, one for flaps.

Hi Farhad! The lights always stay on, but I don't see why you can't figure out a way to have them on a switch. Of course, you have have to plug them into a specific port on the receiver (which I believe they have) and then assign a switch. Hey, it's all part of the fun of the hobby! Cheers to you and I hope it works for you!

I have decided those big rubber tires are just way too bouncy for my plane. I am going with slightly smaller foam tires as found on the Beavers. They still look great but not as bouncy on hard packed dirt runways or regular runways.
@JustwingitRC
6 жыл бұрын
That should work fine! I usually fly mine off grass, so bounce isn't an issue with me but I could see how it could become an issue on harder packed surfaces...
@scottfirman

Justwingit The ground here is always hard pack. its sand, not clay. We get rain, but the soil is so dry and sandy, the rain runs off quickly. It doesnt mush up. That makes for some serious bounce. I have been discussing a possible solution based off a real STOLE plane using hydraulic shock absorbers or rubber bands wrapped around wooden blocks to stretch and absorb the acessive bounce. Those wires they use on the Maule are stiff. The tires absorb all the shock of the landing resulting in a real bounce. I am not used to the plane yet eather.

Why not get a tripod for your camera, it would make your video's more interesting to watch because you could use both hands on the plane. Also, airplanes do not have a "Dash Board". It's called an instrument panel.

Justwingit You can get the really small ones at Banggood .com. 3 mm I think. I just shaved a bit of foam from each corner ledge and cover and glued them in. Tight seal now, no blown off covers. I also sealed my paint and foam with minwax polyurthane sealer. It helps protect the paint and foam from light damage. I havent been able to fly it yet because the E- Bay used DX 6 failed. I found out it had been disassembled which tells me the seller already knew it was a bad unit. Sadly I let it sit a couple months before discovering that fact. E- Bay only has a 30 day warrenty. It was a gen 2. I ended up ordering a brand new DX 6 gen 3 . No more E- Bay used electronics for me. I really enjoyed your energy on the build. I remembered your changing up things and did the same thing. I wont put the Antenna on till I fly. Those will get broke. I have to take the wings off for storage. Its a big plane. I plan on using a 4 s battery as guys say it gives you plenty of power.

It's just the way the designers decided to go with it; I don't see the problem either way, but there are quick connectors on the market and I'm sure they could always be added if you wanted to. Blue Skies my friend!

What I was waiting for was the assembly of the wings, and your comments maybe about the stupid connectors, but after 30 minutes babbling about everything else, not one word about the wings. Instead of using the Tundra system E-flight goes with this crap system. Seeing that most of us with smaller cars will have to take the wings off. Very nice and beautifully built, but those wing connectors put me off buying it

@@JustwingitRC I am not putting anyone down. I just stated a face of the times we live in. I was lucky to experience the art of putting a model aircraft together. Most of my building was pre college and work. All that stopped when work and woman occupied most of my time. I am to an extent seeking a fast way to enjoy some aspect of any hobby. When you have put a plane together in the past the fun of doing it never leaves your mind. I think i am going to orders a YAK 54 ARF and have someone else install all the crap. Then i will call my friend and have him fly it an crash. All instant gratification.. I have done that in the past. Actually i had three ARF"s put together. Now i eat my words.😜
