The song is about one's sorrow and heartache for the loss of a Mother. The song was composed by the singer's husband (at the time, no longer together) for the passing of his Mother..........A beautiful song, one of my favorites.

Hawaiki is the name of the ancestral home of Polynesians... the name has been used on in other places with slight dialect differences. Examples: Savai‘i in Samoa Havaiki in Niue Savaiki in Tongareva Havai‘i, the old name for Ra‘iatea in Tahiti Havaiki, the atoll Fakarava in Tuamotu Havaiki in the Marquesas Hawai‘i ‘Avaiki in Mangareva ‘Avaiki, the spiritual name for the islands of Rarotonga. There are several places called Hawaiki in New Zealand, including at Maketū, Aotea Harbour, Lake Rotongāio, Motutapu Island in the Hauraki Gulf, and the Auckland suburb of Mt Eden.
