9th April 2021. Anyone else watching this amazing performance? (BTW I'm from India but have been captivated by traditional Maori and New Zealand songs/ music)

Maori, very proud. Growing up with other cultures was a pain especially if they didn't like my Maori boy charm. That's right, charm. Despite the fact other's are blinded by the brilliance of my people, I'm not. Now, when I see non Maori singing our waiata I'm very happy, I suck my puku in, shoulders up chin out and count myself lucky. We have to count our blessings and awhi them.

Do pākehā girls in NZ get Kirituhi or moko kauae??? I'm confused. I know that kirituhi have been created so that Māori can share their customs with the masses and Tā moko, on the other hand, is strictly ‘Māori only...is that changing...as life always does!

I personally think there is nothing wrong with that opinion. Based off experience and understanding of the waiata, Maori would almost always do better. Being raised on this song and others like this, you would have the advantage of knowledge and familiarity that other peoples do not. So if he/she thinks they're butchering it, it's probably because they are, despite the effort of the participating group. In regards to the rather racist conclusion to your comment . . . perhaps educate yourself on why they think it's necessary to act that way in the first place. Almost losing your entire cultural significance - therefore, your IDENTITY can do that to people . . .
