This is absolutely my favorite video in the channel. Was quite entertaining see how the opinion changed in real time. I have RCs of almost all major brands and “Banggood specials”, the reality is that Tamiya nostalgia has a ceiling, and they are way beyond that point. Tamiya is basically a shelf queen brand at this point, and I guess collectors are fine with that, but they are nowhere near the performance you can get with almost every other brand these days......, in the immortal words of James Hetfield, Sad but True.......

I’m thrilled that Tamiya is doing all these re-releases. It’s a way to get back my childhood. 😊 This truck is a clone and Tamiya has file a stop against this company but has no legal way of stopping its production. What it shows however is that Tamiya like many other companies inflate their prices quite a lot!

Everyone needs a wake up call and Tamiya, Kyosho, and yes even Traxxas needs to be a foot up on the competition. Rc is evolving and now small companies have access to sophisticated machines and aren’t messing around. There’s money to be had in this crazy thing we love. Remember folks it’s a business thing nothing personal. I myself love this copy clone what ever you call it puts pressure on the Big guys to scratch there heads to come up with new and exciting tech. I have a 2012 Tamiya Bruiser, and I'm actually considering getting one of these clones as well, and painting it up a different color and not using the chrome add on. Watching this video, it looks EXACTLY like my 2012 Bruiser. As for a 1500mAH Lipo Battery, it will still likely still have a decent run time. I use a 4000 lipo battery, and even after running my Bruiser for 30-40 minutes, I only use about 800mAH of the battery.
@AMPROEngineering

Does the 2012 have the standard 540 motor? My vintage one has a much bigger one. I agree about run time. On the last scale run I did with some guys out here, I ran 4 hours straight on a 4000mAh lipo and burned through 3000mAh. Insane.

I agree with whats said about tamiyas lack of innovation these days, like a lot of people my age I love the nostalgia behind the re-releases & its great that SRB parts are readily available again. But, tamiya used to be the driving force behind RC development in the 80's, they need to start thinking like that again.

On the other hand, the truck is made by 恒冠, also a famous RC brand in China, basically its product is neither excellent nor so bad, it is just worthy of it's price, but some parts of truck is not good enough, you need to modify it yourself, you are so good at it, I think you can make the best of this truck.

no doubt, totally agree, Tamiya is going about stagnant on the R&D side of things, darnit! with all the cool crazy little gear motors available the last few years its hard to understand why they aren't designing something scaler/crawler to make advantage of them. 16mm x 40mm 300 RPM is powering a 40" span ornithoper I'd scratch built 3 years ago. there's plenty of demand now for "trail hiking vehicles" with top speeds of 4.5 to 6.5 or 7 mph, that can run for an hour or more on a charge (currently modding a 1/24 Subotech BG1511 to do this). sure I love the classic Tamiya stuff, some have very real reliability issues like Monster Beetle / Blackfoot blowing out transmission plates, rough steering, suspension problems! others are infamous for snapping chassis tubs (Blitzer anyone?) so you're spending money for parts, time waiting for parts to arrive, then the time putting them back together (ouch!). Tamiya doing all the "Re-Re's" with barely anything improvement isn't going to help them. Subotech BG1511 (about 34 bucks, proportional radio comes with)... locked up it's 3 diffs, WPL soft tires, set up suspension for best travel without overly kinking dog bones, slapped in a much slower FK-180 motor, and some minor subtle wheel well trimming, done deal! all structural nylon/plastic (hard to break!), ball bearings everywhere stock. in totally stock form they're very well built little 4WD bashers. very near "hobby quality" at totally toy price. (know you have tons of cars already Alberto, but this thing would suit ya for hikes, it'll run 40-45 minutes with a pair of 1200mah 14500 (AA size) lithium ion cells that you can carry a spare set of in a shirt pocket, is also what I'm running the WPL C24 with) then there's the inexpensive WPL trail crawlers, geared a little tall for their own good and some drive train parts are a little too fragile, but you can literally get 3-4 of them for the price of 1 Tamiya? I'd just ordered their Jeep "Deuce and a half" RTR from GearBest was 20 bucks, I'll just slap normal electrics into it. silly/dumb? you can slap in a really high RPM FK-180 motor, throw some electrical tape on the tires and make that military truck DRIFT just for giggles. how well and how easily/accurately controlled may be another story, but for the price of a 2-3 dollar drop in motor, who wouldn't want to try/see it, just for the laughs?! anyhow... long story short, Tamiya not stepping up to compete = suicide. I remember back when SO WANTING some of their little TamTech pint size racers too.

I love Tamiya (building a Lunchbox now), and I'm sure they pay their workers well, but I also think they're making a big margin from our nostalgia. For me, the HG-P407 is affordable and without a reasonably priced alternative, I can see myself buying one of these very soon.

what I find odd it that it wouldnt take tamiya much to alter the 2012 bruiser into other forms of truck. maybe ene add in optional 4 links, make some upgrade shocks, customizable leaf springs, make an available steering upgrade like we do on the forums where you mount the servo under the front crossmember, and maybe a factory 12mm hex wheel adaptor kit. These new axles and transmissions are damn good upgrades from the original 1985 truck, it's a shame they're only sold for $700 a pop to people with nostalgia instead of being sold for cheaper with less liscencing fees and then they can get some money on the upgrades.

The sad thing is that the Tamiya die hards continue to defend the company's lack of innovation. "Tamiya isn't about being cutting edge, it's about realism" "if you want performance buy a Traxxas" They seem to forget that Tamiya was once right at the cutting edge of RC. They pretend that Tamiya products were always dated and mediocre performers that favoured realism. It's totally untrue. Tamiya were once the trailblazing pioneers. And nowadays they put out plenty of models with lexan bodies so the whole realism argument is BS too. Like I said on the forum, if HSP can make a scale crawler that's so competent that a dozen or so other brands take it up then there's no reason Tamiya can't make something similar and there's no reason it couldn't be sold in kit format. There seems to be a consensus that if Tamiya were to make models that were more dynamically competent that they would somehow compromise their character and soul yet in the 80's Tamiya models delivered both things by the bucket load.

That was possibly the BEST answer to Tamiya's recent problems!!! Tamiya COULD have buried Axial, at the beginning of the Millennium, they have the Industrial Might, and CERTAINLY have the Capital. The Guy who designed the Dancing Rider - Promote Him/Her to Chief of New Product Development!!! Not that the Dancing Rider is the answer - BUT the Creative Mind who created it - IS. The Re-Re'ed Products are Cool, and the Nostalgia is Priceless. Which is why they're Dramatically OVERPRICED for what they are. The subtle improvements made to some... but they were only that, subtle. OK, switching to Dogbones on the ORVs, was Brilliant! (ANYONE who had the originals, fully understands!!) But still just subtle.... They NEED to knock the World on its ASS, like they used to. We were begging for purpose built Crawler Truck, before Century's end... They gave us the CR-01. Yeah, OK, it was a Crawler Truck.... But it was STILL underscale!! 10.5" Wheelbase? Really? Complex Suspension System - Overkill - Overweight! Ginormous, out of Scale Axle Pumpkins. No, just NO! AGAIN with the Crappy Tires!! It DID have Beadlocks (VERY Cool), but no grip. That's combined with not enough articulation in the overdone Suspension And....... *HOW MUCH Did They want for it???* 😱😫 At first, the CR-01 actually did pretty well. The closest Competition was the Axial AX10, and the HPI Wheelie King (which SUCKED!). That wasn't all there either. Tamiya HAD a chance to tweak, or even come up with something simpler.... They didn't..... Axial brings out the SCX10, then the Wraith.... And THAT Competition was OVER. Tamiya COULD outdo ALL of them, like they used to.... WILL THEY?? Carmine 💥 ⛽

@@CarminesRCTipsandTricks I wouldn't even consider a Traxxas as a basher. If you drive them as a basher, they break like a Walmart toy. I landed my nitro Jato on its ass end going over a small jump and the piss poor rear suspension mount integrated into the transmission housing caused the tranny case to split in two. That was 4 years ago and I never bothered fixing it. After spending money to replace parts after every run for a month, that was the last straw.

Well, Tamiya are indeed pioneers. They practically invented the RC monster truck or at least brought it mainstream (Blackfoot, Clod Buster), the invented the trick car (lunchbox, midnight pumpkin), they brought on the touring car craze, and even the crawling segment when people started modifying their TXT-1s. What they don't do is employ slave labor, practice currency manipulation and out right theft of designs and intellectual property. It's not greed that keeps Tamiya prices high, it's the cost of running a reputable and responsible business. Just remember that when you buy $700 worth of truck for $290, and that's a personal decision. Myself, I don't like purchasing stolen goods, and that's exactly what this truck is.

I've owned several OG bruisers in the past and I've been wanting a rere since they came out but I couldn't see spending the money tamiya wants for them. The main reason I bought this over the 'official' tamiya version as I can have the look of a rere bruiser in rtr form for under $200 and put the $700+ I saved from buying Tamiyas version for my family. So to me it's a win win. I get the truck that 's almost 100% identical to the 1 I want and I still have money to keep my family supported.

Again, if I paid $800 - 1000 for a NEW kit I'd be rethinking that route. I'm in the same boat as you, its hard to compare because I had the original Bruiser and Blazing Blaser, and this one is based on the re-re. Will it compete outa' bix a basic SCX10/2? It’s a revolutionary and advanced truck for its time, but now it’s just... an expensive relic, now the Heng guan has the molds and casts for the parts that are also compatible with original bruisers. And vice versa. Heng guan has done a service and given us a great truck, a relic of the past back to us for a more appropriately given price tag. The castings are soft, the bearings are odd and rusty, and the bearing seats in the casting are oversize. They are functional I guess and were fairly cheap but not for the perfectionist...

after owning an hg-p407 for one month i have found an annoying design flaw , the transmission is only held in by the two front mounting tabs and the rear tabs are left floating and unattached , there is room to put two triangle shaped mounts but no one makes them , over time the two m3 screws that hold the motor and trans in the frame loosen and the truck develops shifting issues , i am also concerned that the front ears that are the attachment point will eventually break off , if you have time to design the rear transmission mounts i will gladly buy the first set , i already have your front servo mount and steering arm and i love them , keep up the good work .

@@AMPROEngineering i just replaced the two grommets on the rear transmission guides and although it did stiffen things up a little there is still a ton of flex in the frame near the lower cross member area and some movement of the transmission causing shifting issues , i still believe that some type of rear transmission mount is necessary because what they have isn't cutting the mustard , i think over time the frame will crack right behind the center cross member i don't know if the 2012 bruiser has the same amount of flex or if it is just the hg-p407's cheap frame rails but its something to keep an eye on for sure .

Ttamiya has always been my manufacturer of choice and the Bruiser has always been a truck I lusted after. However the price has always been prohibitive, even more so now with the current UK exchange rates. I don't normally hold with buying clones but this is an old, old model and surely any patents etc. are long since spent so if the quality is acceptable I will be getting one of these with a tinge of regret that it's not a Tamiya. I don't think this will really eat into Tamiya's Bruiser sales because the Bruiser is so expensive only real Tamiya aficionados will fork out for one anyway.

The HG-P407 seems to have achieved a level of notoriety already amongst passionate Tamiya fans. I wonder how they will react to the latest release, the HG-P417? This brand new model is based on another iconic Tamiya product, the Toyota Hilux High Lift. I am a long term Tamiya fan but was intrigued to check out the HengGuan clone. See me unboxing the new pick-up on my channel, BlackSeaRC. Will it be as infamous as the Bruiser clone?
@AMPROEngineering

Oh indeed it has. I've compared several of these since buying this one and it appears that there are several molds being used. I am convinced that this truck was made using the exact same mold as the Tamiya. I think this company making it is the contract manufacturer that Tamiya Doesn't want us to know exists. As for the new one, I can't believe that anybody would even waste their time with that truck. As someone who has spent probably $2000 trying to make that highlift as good as a trail finder 2, It's baffling that anybody would go to that effort to reproduce that vehicle. Again, it looks like this is the same contract manufacturer using actual molds. I don't think it will be as infamous because though the pricing is as idiotic from Tamiya, It is no way near as loved.

the community relentlessly begged for a rerelease of the bruiser. I bought a HG-P407 and I have found the electronics are passable. The controller is ill fitted in my hand, and I have big hands but the control is just too big... but it is nice that it was included and it does work well. My biggest complaints are; the drivelines have expansion joints at both ends, this is why they have too much play the body parts are fitted correctly (could just be poor assembly or my next point) The body isnt straight (I think i got a poor mold) my leafs are a bit bent (nothing I cant fix) My body mounts are stripped in the rear (the plastic piece is not the best, super glue to the rescue) There is a what I consider excessive play in the transmission, but I dont have another 2012 bruiser to compare to, the planitaries might have more play than the straight cut gears in my 85 bruisers??? these are all kinda minor nitpicks... the chassis is well made and it drives as good as an original bruiser. it was well worth $300 and 19 days shipping.

I dropped in some left over 85 bits and a servo horn and it drives much better. I really don't mind tweaking such a cheap truck as overall the main bits are fine. also I found the drive shafts are the same as the 2012 remake. I'll probably order some Chinese knockoff rc4wd super scale shafts
