In this video we struggle with the E30 clutch, pilot bearing, pressure plate, clutch alignment, and finally attach the Getrag 5-speed transmission to the BMW M20B25 Engine.
This is the second-to last video in our drift prep series for Jonas' 1990 BMW 325i daily drifter. If you've been following the series, you'll recognize a couple of shots from other videos we added for continuity, but 98% of this video is brand new. It's a bit long, but we cover lots of ground. Hang in there to see Schwab go ham about likes and subscriptions at the end. 😀
Here are a few of the challenges we faced while doing this job:
- The fact that we had to do it at all (The clutch failed after becoming oil-soaked by the rear main seal)
- Broken transmissions bolts
- A stubborn, stuck pilot bearing
- Putting the transmission on twice (because we weren't sure it mated properly the first time)
- Having to cut down the pressure plate bolts (because we couldn't find the right size locally)
Even with all those things going wrong, there were really no awful setbacks. This is just a big undertaking. I can't imagine trying to do this under the car...although I'm sure we'll end up doing it someday.
