So the 2nd issue with this simple work. The belt for the a/c is supposed to be a 5k355. or 5k440 is you have an air pump. I did not see one on mine so I ordered the 5k355. It did not fit. I ordered an another brand, no fitment. I push the tensioner all the way down and still won't go on. The 440 of course is way too big, but the 355 is too small. I tried Continental and Gates belts. Size should not matter from brand, but I tried. So I'm off to get a 365 belt. It does need at least 10mm longer to even at max tension it would go onto the pulley's. Yes, I'm putting it on correctly, I checked 3 times :-) left a/c comp with ribs then the middle is the tensioner pulley, the belt goes over with the smooth side and then again crank pulley with ribs. The belt should also ran over the tensioner. Simple but yet it won't fit. At full tension it won't fit and it is not supposed to be that tight. I ordered a 365 and 370. I hope one of them will fit perfectly and yet tight enough not to slip. I am guessing the 370 will be the winner but I report back. I am so frustrated about this as I ordered all the parts ahead and planned to everything last weekend. I had issues with the tensioner having a small tab that needed to be clicked onto the housing, but once I removed the entire tensioner bracket and its bracket's bracket (yes, there are 2 brackets) it was easy. Now the belt is too short even though I did order the correct size. I'm beyond frustrated.

Here's a question. I have a BMW e36 328i 1996, I've just done a serpentine belt and tensioner replacement and your video was really useful - thanks. All works fine but my car never seemed to have the idler pulley next to the alternator. I've never noticed this before as I've never really paid attention until now but it has the bolt in place and tightened - that's it. Some images show this arrangement others show the idler. I'm chasing down pulley noises and it's already way better but I'm curious to know a) why the idler pulley isn't there and b) if putting it on will getting everything running better and maybe eliminate any more minor chattering. Any idea why it may not be there? And also any reason why I shouldn't stick on and see what happens, I ordered one so it's easy to do. Thanks.

I can't seem to get the belt back on, even when the tensioner is at its loosest. I know the belt is correct because it fell off when the power steering pump prong broke off, so I replaced that, so the belt must go back on, I would think that one would loosen the tensioner and slide the belt back on just like you did and then tighten the tensioner back, but I can't seem to get the belt on. I tried a couple of cheap installers, but they were too small and didn't fit, the magnets don't stick, I just can't figure it out. Any ideas?

@@drewmartinez424 yeah it will be fine, If your going to go with forged pistons I would get some low compression pistons (8.5:1 or 9:1) and just run a standard thickness cutring head gasket. if you are going to run stock pistons, then I would run a low compression head gasket. you should not run low compression pistons and a low compression head gasket at the same time.

Got a issue after replacing every pulley and tensioner. The idler pulley rubs on the tensioner bracket. If I tighten it all the way it won't even turn. I checked and the tensioner is on, its fully bolted on and everything lined up fine. It rubs about 0.75mm , so a lot. Even when not bolted, just pushed against the surface (yes, the small tab is in the hole) and it rubs. I am stumped. I tried the old idler pulley and its spacer and same result. It feels like the tensioner is about 0.75mm out too much. But how could that happen when its bolted down ? All the bolts are in and still. I'm going to remove everything tomorrow and start all over but ran out of threadblocker so I gave up. Last resort, I will cut that 0.75mm off of the tensioner housing. It is a bit dumb idea as it should be ok but I spent 2h installing / removing / reinstalling everything and it is still not lining up. I hate issues like this and the clearance should be a lot more there then 3/4 of a mm so I am just mad at this situation. I did some searches and found several guys reporting same but neither one ever followed up to explain the solution. If anybody has an idea or knows what am I doing wrong (I'm 99.99% sure I did something wrong) please let me know. I did NOT change the tensioner bracket only the tensioners and pulley's.

@@M3NACE The idler pulley on the tensioner housing/bracket. It touches the corner and rubs but so much that if bolt is tight, the idler won't even spin. I tried the old idler and same result.
