Recording 11 from the inaugural E3G State of Climate Politics Forum, held on the 25th June 2024 as part of London Climate Action Week.
Fireside Chat: Perspective on Populism
Karla Hill, Associate Director, Political Economy & Governance, E3G
Matthew Lockwood, Senior Lecturer, University of Sussex
As we reach the midpoint in a year marked by numerous elections and the recent European Parliament vote, this forum took a critical look at the rise of populism, particularly the growth of right-wing movements across Europe. This session delved into how different forms of populism-both right and left-affect climate politics and explored the impact of populism on climate policy, whether populists are in government or hold parliamentary sway.
The fireside chat will feature two key arguments from each panelist regarding the intersection of populism and climate action, followed by an engaging discussion moderated by E3G’s Associate Director, Karla Hill.
E3G is an independent climate change think tank with a global outlook. We work on the frontier of the climate landscape tackling the barriers and advancing the solutions to a safe climate.
Our goal is to translate climate politics, economics and policies into action.
