I was just talking to my paint supply guy earlier today. We're going to get together sometime over the next couple of weeks to pick out the red and ivory. I plan to do an episode from his shop, which ought to be fun!

It seems that each step shows some level of imperfection. Your the right man for the job of addressing these issues. Great job.

That's actually been the surprising thing - exactly THAT! Every time I sand it, it seems like there is another curve or dip or surface that isn't quite flat, but we're talking THOUSANDTHS.

My friend Pete is the man! Love both his channels... The HFT gun is cool and does the job but I prefer the air gunza 3.0 tip az3 made by iawata that gun kicks butt and is not a throw away gun like the HFT. I'm with Pete I don't fall for the gimmicks in products the regular high build or slick sand is my choice for saving money. Your doing are great job on Christine always enjoy watching your work keep it coming 😎👍

I like his content, but you better know where the volume knob is, because he can be loud! LOL! On this, I wanted to try a polyester primer/surfacer and Optex is the one that they had. What I've discovered is that it seems to quickly fade. After just 24 hours, it was a much lighter shade and was almost gray, but you could still see the difference when you sand it.

It sands like ROCK. It's HARD and takes a lot of muscle, which is in short supply! You'll see in the next video that should publish this weekend.

Yep, Bondo, Fiberglass & Polyester Primer are basically all the same chemically. They're a Polyester. Kicks quick like bondo too but not as quick I heard as Featherfill or Slicksand in the heat !!

Bill, new subscriber here, Ive been watching your videos, well done! I too have been keeping a video log on you tube of a lengthy rebuild (ground up), but nowhere near the level you have. Recently Ive been using the the Evercoat Optex, I've used the the slick sand before but I saw this and though I would give it a try. I came across another KZitem's video who is a long time body and paint guy who had catastrophic bleed through with the Evercoat Optex. Ive watched through to your paint, so I assume you have had no problems with "pink bleed through"?

Thanks! One thing about that polyester is that it's a filler, not a primer. I was told as I was buying it, "Remember, you wouldn't apply top coat directly over unprimed Bondo. Same goes with this." So, I made sure to have it completely covered in future steps. But, you can't help but sand through to it here and there. That said, best practice would be to be sure to spray a sealer just before topcoating (which I didn't do, but should have.)

I like the pink primer. Red and white will be sharp. In the 60’s I had a white and green 56. My friend had a red and white 56. I think the red and white looked better.

Wow, you are making me feel bad about planning on hiring a professional to paint my 56! ;) I don't have a paint booth either, and really did not want overspray all over my new shop. :) And the last time I painted a car, there was this Kamakazi moth........ :(

I bought that same gun and same primer from Pete’s video That gun was ass, spent so much time sanding to remove orange peel. I used my regular primer gun to spray more last week and it laid it out way better. Minimal orange peel

I can't disagree. Most of my labor was sanding out that orange peel. Whatever the case, it needs a big spray tip.

I'm not sure about the model number, but I'm pretty sure they sell this one at Lowes. It's a 3M model. It does everything that I need it to. The big thing is the cartridge. You need it to absorb the volatiles. I keep it on until I'm finished cleaning the spray gun. It helps!
