@skierman64 Given that a quick lap of the Ring is really quite intensive physical and mental activity, turning the a/c off is a recipe for one very overheated driver. I tried it, it made no discernible difference to performance in the places where you might expect to see a difference (long uphill sections) and no overheating was evident. And thanks to having it on, I did not fall out of the car in a steaming heap after 2 laps...

Hi Thomas, The camera was an ordinary consumer type HD camcorder (Canon) fitted with a 0.5x lens adaptor to get a sufficiently wide angle. The mount was supplied by B Hague (they have a website, UK based) and this attached the camera to the passenger side head restraint pillars. Having someone sit in the passenger seat does a great job of damping excessive vibration. Simple and very effective mount, with plenty of adjustment possibilities. Cost about £40 from memory. Enjoy!

@ELPIRATA21 - haha, thanks for the compliment. No, I am not a pilot....just do a bit of low altitude flying, every so often! @ngkful - DSC was set to M-Track mode. The cars have the DSC "off" capability controlled by an under-bonnet switch, as BMW don't want to have too many people crashing their cars. The guy immediately in front was a BMW employee and he might have been allowed to turn off DSC altogether. He was also quite aggressive with his steering inputs.

@NurburgringFahrer Thanks for the nice comments. On the most recent Nordschleife training the instructor allowed me to lead the group (ahead of him) and this was definitely very thought provoking. Without the comfort of the instructor in front, choosing the right speed, braking, turn in points, line, everything becomes your own responsibility.....much more challenging! Especially Schwedenkreuz!!!

1. Nice driving it is harder to follow, you need to predict the breaking habits of those ahead and get to the accelerator at the right time. Really hard to stay close at the tight ones. I find the apexes easier to follow close. I love to pass on the tight ones though especially when I have space to take the inside of the corner first and put my bumper ahead of the other guy before the straight. It aggreviates them but you are not there to make friends... 2. I have a manual which I love to drive daily but I admit that at the track the paddle shifters are faster, smarter and more intuitive. Hands down the same driver does better time with the paddles than with the manual. I still put my money on the three pedal car though which I love for its v8 sound and pure steering. It is the last great m3 before the new playstation version. 3. I know this was just training i love the way you took your lines; just around 4.50" you seemed a bit relaxed but you are a really good driver. Enjoy your toy and when you don't have to follow someone beat that 8.30" you deserve it.

@ExeosZwei - no, you're not the only one! Although I am totally convinced of the benefits of DCT on a circuit, I much prefer the involvement of the manual transmission everywhere else. So much so that I have just ordered a new M3 Competition Spec coupe - with the manual transmission
@TonyBrQ
12 жыл бұрын
@HectorHTC Nobody said DCT was not "better". I have driven DCT M3's many times and would always choose this transmission for serious track work. On the road, I much prefer manual, however, as every gearchange becomes an event, requiring planning, timing, skill to execute perfectly. DCT just requires the flick of a paddle.

Impressive, 8'17". Your entire group must have been very good. My experience has been that most groups lap BTG in the 9's as the instructors need to keep the group together. I got two solo laps with the instructor and had I charged the Gantry instead of slowing I might have done an 8'35" lap. I tip my hat to you. Next time earlier turn-ins and DCT in S mode.

Sometimes more, especially on hot days. We were seeing 125+ at times, and eventually the ECU will take over and upshift to 7th gear if this goes on for too long. When this happened, it was probably due to the oil level being below maximum.

Oh Luis, you dunce. You clearly have no clue. Most of that lap was above 6500rpm and if you look you can see the shift lights (you do know what shift lights are don't you? You have probably never been anywhere near an E92 M3, nor the Nordschleife, so your opinion is worth rather less than squat. Stick to your bicycles.
