I think in the 5 years this video was posted, the research on hemostatic agents would win you over. There is a reason the US Army Medical Corps has placed it in every IFAK carried by every Soldier in combat. With that, great video. You helped me make a decision on a mass purchase for my unit.

I have to build my own first aid kid (ifak) since I have often forgotten my main medical kit in the car. I have used a chocolate eggshell and it has gone pretty well. The experience makes me too confident for short walks to the point it can hurt :( I noticed I tend to intentionally forget my main medical kit in the car to save weight because "I can always jump back for it if needed". By "short walks" I mean mountain trips for 1-2 kilometers away from the car. I have used to consider this a small distance but suddenly realized that depending on the injury it could turn to a "far distance". Then I have started thinking of a solution. I have researched all mini medical kits. But then a problem occurs! As a difference to my mine medical kid where I have pills especially selected to my problems and often injuries all the kits that are sold out are with too basic equipment (bands, cotton, etc). I realized I already have these basics and could build my own kit. But in that kit, I'll add all the pills and tools I need. First I needed to find a stable and small enough box for it. Luckily my kids love chocolate eggs and I had a few plastic eggshells around. Get my main medical kit and start working. And tadaa! I believe I have prepared one of the smallest and full IFAK kits ever. (update: I have recently cut myself in the forest and this eggshell save me from bleeding) Here is what I've got in my pocket-size IFAK: Stomach help Active carbon Water purifying tablets Anty allergenic 2 x Safety Pins Hand sanitizer Straw Toothpaste Straw 3 x Bands Compressed Cotton Micro knife Do you have a mini IFAK with you? What can I add or remove from mine in your opinion?

That's not an ifak. That's just like a booboo kit. An ifak or a trauma kit has tourniquets, chest seals, packing gauze and pressure bandages.

What about some 1 inch Gorilla tape to secure the hyfin seal packaging as a backup occlusive dressing in case your patient has more than one GSW? Maybe not a whole roll of tape but a few feet wrapped around a decompression needle or small led flashlight?

Decent review but I can't buy into your opinion on the hemostatic agent. I don't think there's any argument that a lacerated artery in a limb that's too high to apply a tourniquet will ever be stopped by simply stuffing gauze. Maybe the hemostatic won't work 100% of the time but it combined with gauze has got to increase your chances exponentially.

For that kind of money I think someone is better off using this review as a guide for baseline contents, and putting their own kit together. The Condor First Responder Pouch will give you the horizontal mounting, add this stuff, and your personal/mission specific items. FWIW I look at First Aid kits like I do any other kit. Bare bones and booboo on my belt, another trauma/bleeder kit on my chest rig, or plate carrier. If I'm having a really bad day there's another kit in my pack.

@@PrepMedic Why the fu*k are there no NSAIDs in the pack? Iodine / alcohol, how about some damn hemostatic forceps, an endotracheal, thermal blanket, Israeli bandage, maybe some Quikclot _or similar._ Needle, fishing line over tooth floss, or even a stapler, a lighter/matches, maybe a medical hydrator. All shit that weighs next to nothing and takes up little space. All essential. Buddy care is not always an option now, is it? WTF is your plan in the event of self-aid? ------------ derp! 🤕😵 Not trying to be a dick. Just tired of people doing reviews on military gear and looking like soup sandwiches. Being medical (EMT / Paramedic etc.) DOES NOT qualify anyone nonmilitary to do reviews on military items. I mean, there are missing 'very basic' items. Items that issued IFAKs even have.
@PrepMedic
Ай бұрын
My man, none of those items (save for an extra CAT and a hemostatic agent) are included in a standard IFAK loadout. How is an ET tube going to help you without a laryngoscope, or even a scalpel. Hemostats are also not a must have item unless we are getting into crics or a chest tube but again you don’t have the correct supplies to do either of those procedures. Medical staplers are not used to mitigate life threatening bleeding and hold very little value outside of cosmetic considerations and infection prevention (in very select cases). Hemostatic agents are the gold standard in wound packing but studies show no difference in mortality between them and untreated gauze which makes untreated gauze an acceptable alternative if cost and shelf life are a consideration. Similarly a lighter, dental floss and a needle don’t have any application in a true IFAK which is ostensibly a STB kit.

@@PrepMedic dude... I am not going to sit here and debate with you as to why you are wrong in 100 different ways. I spent 17.4 years as an 18D in the 10th SFG, so I know my shit a lot better than you do. I am not assuming this; I know it because you are clearly not old enough to have achieved that much training regardless of your status. This is not debatable via words, feelings or opinion. Here, let us dumb this down A LOT for your sake. Why in the hell wouldn't you have a survival / space blanket? That is a question. What are two of the biggest killers in a combat / training environment caused by hot and cold weather? What harm could it do have a few NSAIDs in your IFAK that should be there to drop down fever levels? If you were at my test table, you would fail. If I was doing a PCC/PCI on you, you would fail and then you would get a negative counseling and then have the person in charge of you fired. Your superiors (and peers) are clearly failing to properly train and educate you 'young' man.
