Very interesting to see how this was presented & Narrated compared to the Nazi this & Nazi that of today. This was only 18 year after the War ended. When people wasn't has hysterical about the Nazis as they are 80 year later.

Agreed. The Nazis were at their worst in the 30s and 40s. Everyone knew first hand what a blight on humanity they were. Nowadays they are just a dramatised history lesson.

Well, luckily we know today that pretty much all he says in this movie is wrong. Hitler did not build this. Martin Bormann did. And it was a gift for the Führer's 50th birthday. Also, Hitler himself was only there a couple of times. His real residence was the Berghof, a place the Allies unnecessarily destroyed. It might have become some kind of shrine, I admit that, but that could have been controlled. The destruction of all these historic places can not be undone. Sadly, man still needs to grasp this...

The claim that the Kehlsteinhaus was a gift for Hitler's 50th birthday has been proven wrong. The building was erected in 1937/38, but Hitler didn't celebrate his 50th birthday until 1939. Nor did Martin Bormann build it. He only had the planning, the architect was Roderich Fick and the Kehlsteinhaus was built by Hochtief. The statement that Hitler was only there "a couple of times" is a gross understatement. Up to 14 visits and even if the numbers fluctuate are clearly more than "a couple of times". The claim that a cult could have been prevented from arising around the building speaks of boundless naivety or simply stupidity. You should know that this is not possible. That's already impossible in other places, how could it have been possible here. So it's good that at least the Berghof was destroyed.

@@Carambasjokk Incorrect, the right side won the war and it is some kind of bad luck it didn't happen in 1944. The alternative, a German victory, would have been a dictatorship, nobody with a clear mind could even want.

@@Ul.B You gobble up what you've been slowly fed. A dictator can be good. Or he can be bad. But democracy is ALWAYS bad.

The picturesque side of human insanity...the dark, foreboding mountains echoing the distorted caverns of Hitler's brain.

Beautiful landscapes. with breath-taking views of those mountains. Hitler may have been an evil dictator with visions of conquering the world, But when it comes to picking a lovely spot to build a house upon, you have to say, he had something there.

Wish it was my memory, I was a 7 year old in 1962 living at Brentwood in Essex, my late mother had her final baby, and I had started at a school at Upminster in Essex, such a bland upbringing as compared to this gem of a film.
