ARE Energy Access Investment Forum 2024
The session delved into the identified issues by DFIs surrounding the financing of Green mini-grids (GMGs). These issues encompass a spectrum of concerns, including capital expenditure (CAPEX), foreign exchange risks, adequacy of guarantees, the financing mix comprising grants, debt, and equity, return on investment (ROI) expectations, and governance structures. Panellists explored some potential solutions to these challenges, examining various financial mechanisms and partnerships that can be leveraged to ensure the sustainability of GMGs. They also analysed the role of DFI’s in de-risking GMGs to attract private investment.
