Cliff, your observations are spot on. I returned my pair because of feedback issues. My hearing loss is high frequency and I couldn’t stand the metallic sound and the echo. I also had trouble finding the string at times. I’m trying out the more ones now. It’s a superior product. But, as you say the sixes are actually quite good, it’s just that my needs are more demanding as a musician. Thank you for your honest review and your work in general.

Dr. Clff, thank you a a very thorough review! I have used Eargo units since their first generation. In my own testing, I found results similar to yours and saw their significant technical improvements tended to skip a generation. For example, while owning and and using their Max aids, I tested their Neo aids and found only a slight benefit and returned them. When next testing Neo HiFi versus Max, I found significant inprovement and I upgraded. After testing the Neo 5 versus Neo HiFI, I saw little reason to make a switch. Unfortunately my hearing loss is now greater than Eargos are designed to treat, so no Neo 6 tests. I now use a custom ITE unit, but do miss some of Eargo's advatages. Being located further down in the ear they can localize sound better than my ITE's, their design has no occlusion, and their app is more robust than prescription aid's apps. Although my custom ITE's are an improvement versus Ergos, the hearing aid industry still has room for improvement as (other than Earlens) frequency cutout is ~8KHz limiting hearing range for music.

I have had Eargo neo Hifi for 2 years. I like them but there have been problems. The main one was the microphone ports were too small so they clogged easily. Eargo service was good and there was some delay for replacements during the pandemic. Mine had a 2 year warranty when I purchased which has expired now. It seems like they have 2 year warranties on whatever is the current model (eargo 6) and 1 year on older models. I didn't have any feedback problems with mine. A problem was knowing how to adjust them for my moderate hearing loss. Just had to adjust them by ear. 😀. Thanks for your videos Dr. Cliff they have been informative and helpful in my hearing education.

I started with eargo about 3 years ago and sent them back since they didn’t solve the speech problem. By the way they charged me 100.00 fee to return as a “cleaning fee”. Since I was in construction, every nearby bang of a hammer or other loud noise caused them to change programs so they had to go. When I look at my hearing test printout my hearing loss isn’t mild to moderate, rather mild to severe and still have difficulty understanding people from time to time using resound re961. Not sure what direction I’ll go when these are no longer serviceable.

I’ve been using Eargo’s for several years and I love the clarity of sound and would say they are perfect for me if it weren’t for continual issues with battery life. I have had to have several of the chargers replaced because they either would not hold a charge or stopped providing charge to the devices. I currently use the 5’s and NEVER am able to get more than 12hours of a full charge, usually more like 11.

I had these on trial. The form factor is discrete. Battery life each day was awesome. None of the petals worked to keep the units in my ears, especially while eating or talking at length. The Eargos slid out of my ears and I had to keep pushing them back into place. Feedback was an issue for me. I also experienced program changes that were triggered by noises in the environment. The app could be improved to give you a better orientation to your settings for volume, treble, and bass. What does that mean? Well, from the default positions, you get two clicks up or two clicks down for a total of 5 positions. Your treble settings, for example, can be different in each of the programs (normal, meeting, restaurant, music). When you switch between programs, you can’t see what your treble settings are for each program. This increases your learning curve to find your sweet spots for different environments. As for sound quality, it was OK for everyday situations. There were oddities. Turn signal clicks in my car had a tinny quality to them. A Steinway piano that a friend plays sounded like a saloon piano in a western movie. But for everyday situations where I talked with people, my hearing and understanding improved. The staff were friendly and were genuinely helpful. My refund during the trial was processed without hassle or undue delay. I was glad to give these a try. I will continue to follow product development. If increasing the size of the form factor could accommodate circuitry for better sound processing, I’d recommend Eargo to do that.

I have had the Eargo Neos since they came out. They replaced the charger once and I had to buy another right unit after the warranty expired. Now the left one is no longer working and I am looking at the Eargo 6. I have had no trouble with the tap system but my dog can bark and change the channel sometimes. I think my hearing is right on the edge for the Eargos now and I am considering other providers. The trouble is that the Eargos are the most comfortable and invisible hearing aids on the market now that are also rechargable

I received my Eargo 6 units yesterday and they were junk. I plugged them in for the recommended 4 hours charging. There were 4 solid lights showing for both L and R when I plugged them in, but I left them in for 4 hours. Then I proceeded to set them up with the phone app and all was great...for 3 hours. Then the L one shut off, indicating low charge. I left them in the charger, the charger plugged in, over night and now the R unit is only showing 25% charge and will not turn on. Phone support says it will take up to 2 days to initiate a return.

Dr. Cliff- Some of the problems that I experienced with my Eargo 5 hearing aids were: - The charging case seemed to discharge at random and I would be left with both dead aids and a dead case - The app and connectivity was terrible. The 75%+ volume requirement because of the way the app communicates with the aids is just not great in my opinion. And changing the volume on the app as a remote control was clunky. - Battery life of the aids was not as good as they claimed, and I would frequently see dead aids after about 8-10 hrs. - Tap controls rarely worked. - The fact that the aids didn't change both sides when you changed the program by tapping is so.dumb. As my first pair of 'hearing aids', I thought that the aids themselves did their job for the most part, but the clunky, underdeveloped, and overpriced technology on the user interface side, and the hardware built into the case, were bad enough to make me return them. I'm hesitant to try the Eargo 6 for those reasons.
@WA5US
2 жыл бұрын
I had the EARGO 5 and now the EARGO 6 and the problems you described are the same. You have to be very careful when charging the earpieces. The charger has to communicate with them using ultrasonic commands and if the pedals are dirty or the earpieces aren't properly in their places in the case you'll have these problems. Communicating with them from the app requires the same ultrasonic commands and depends on the volume level and the way you position your phone when you use the app.

My experience with Eargo was not good. Honestly, it was not the best $3000.00 investment I’ve made. I have the Eargo Neo devices and you wouldn’t believe the number of times I’ve had to exchange the devices because they malfunctioned or simply stopped working, the pull tab broke off both and I had to exchange them, and the app stopped working so I haven’t been able to adjust the settings for the last six months! The Eargo Care Team is very nice, patient, and professional. However, unfortunately for me the devices (Neo) have basically not lived up to my investment expectations. Therefore, I am going to pass on their new model and visit my hearing care professional to get fitted for better devices hopefully at a much better cost.

I just looked those hearing aids up. Those are very obtrusive not to mention cumbersome. This is an apple to orange comparison. A unit that large should cost $500-1000 tops considering all of the room for equipment they have and the large number of sacrifices the end user has to make. $1500 is a terrible deal. Here's another example even though glasses offer better reliability, vision, less Maintenace and significantly lower costs long term, people still opt for contacts. Why? because they want something discreet that doesn't bring attention to themselves or simply to be more stylish.
