I grew up watching his games, too! Bum Phillips era where the tag line, Kick the Steel door down, referring to the Pittsburgh Steelers, was coined! Earl was the representative for Blue Bell Ice Cream, in Brenham.

His style of running was brutal on both himself and those trying to tackle him. One thing people don't talk about is how during his era opposing teams were allowed to take cheap shots well after the play and that led to many players of him era having many physical issues. My cousin played in the early 60s and he also was in a wheelchair at an early age.

Texas ledge in many ways. I have lived in Texas all my life and known many people who passed ways with him and they all talked about what a humble kind person he is. Young kids now days could learn from him.
