There's a colom of air that the diaphragm hits as the striker moves , and I know that because of Dan "FEDERAL 3T22" .

My elementary school was built in the 50’s and used those as outside bells until the early 2000’s.

Awesome Horn! That would go great with a 4251-1 or a 4250!

Thanks! My original plan was to pair a 4250 with it, though I can’t find any extra glass for it

Hard to say, The button holds quite a bit of tension on those stations from what I’m aware of. I may be able to find a glass cutter to make me a few squares I suppose but I’m unfamiliar with that process

Probably some of the loudest fire horns I’ve ever heard. Can’t begin to imagine how these echo down a hallway

@@VintageVibratone Yes, and the school had 3 of them in the building, 1 was near the south entrance of the building, which was near the main entrance of the building, and it was also by my classroom door, (I was also in Special Ed. Classes so for 2 years I would hear it go off) another one was near the east side of the building, and there was one near the southwest entrance of the building. There was also one in the gymnasium, but it was a traditinal red squared alarm horn.

Looks like IBM cared protecting their strikers in the 1930’s

Now that wouldn't seem super hard to make a replica mechanism of that, if you can work with metal that is.

Don’t think so at all, the biggest problem would be the coil of course

Was it the First Fire alarm horn or something?
@VintageVibratone

Not the first, no, but probably close. I can’t confirm it but I believe some of the first practical AC and DC electromechanical horns were produced by Benjamin during the later half of the 1910s. I’d guess this IBM horn was manufactured sometime circa 1930s-1940s

@@erikthepirate8068 That is very true. If I were to put a label to this particular 4030, it was probably one of the first commercially available fire horns meant for automated systems in non-industrial buildings
