Happy Mother's Day!
Since it's quarantine and there is no way to buy gifts, the kids decided to make their own gifts for mom with things they found lying around in the house- Flowers from muffin liners with a painted mason jar for the vase, Salt-dough handprints and a pop-up card. I hope mom doesn't catch them making their surprises!
We have separate DIY videos for these. Feel free to check them out
FLOWERS
• How to Make Easiest Pa...
Materials: Muffin Liners, green BBQ stick (or pipe cleaners), markers, glue gun
1. Color BBQ sticks green for the stem with green markers or green paint
2. Get muffin liners 4-5/flower. Since we only had plain white, we colored the edges.
3.. Fold the stack of muffin liners into quarters to make lines(fold it twice)
4. Open up the muffin liners and stick the BBQ stick in the middle
5. Secure the top and the bottom with glue gun glue
6. ruffle the different layers starting from the topmost layer- this will be the flowers' inner layer, and so on
*Variation for Petals. After step 3, while the muffin liners are still folded into quarters, cut the edges so that they will resemble petals
VASE
• How to Paint a Mason J...
Materials: PVC glue, paint and water
1. Decide how many colors you would like to use
2. Mix 2 tablespoons PVC glue, a few drops of paint and a little water (just to thin the mixture out)
3. Use the glue-paint mixture to paint the inside of the jar
4. turn over the jar on a wire rack so the excess paint can drip off
5. place in oven for 20-30 mins at 100'F, turning twice (don't forget to use an oven mit)
SALT DOUGH HANDPRINTS
• Family Salt-Dough Hand...
Materials: Flour, salt, water, paint
1. Mix 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt and 1 cup water in a bowl
2. Knead dough
3. Roll out dough on a baking sheet to desired shape at least 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick
4. Make your handprints on the dough
5. place dough in an oven at 100'F- baking time will vary depending on the thickness and size of your dough. We baked ours for 35 mins and turned it over half way.
6. Cool the dough
7. Paint the dough
8. Paint it with a sealer to preserve longer
POP-UP Cards
Materials: Paper/card stock, coloring materials, scissors and glue
1. Choose what image you would like to have pop-up. Prepare your template. We chose ❤️mom ♥️. We typed this in MS word. To make the other side of the pop-out, just flip the text vertically and make sure the two are aligned at their top. Make tabs at least a centimeter long at the bottom of your letters. Print out your template
2. Fold your template in half (at the intersection of the two sides of your texts) so that you would only need to cut one side. Cut the template.
3. If you are going to color your template, do it now
4. Fold your card in half and position your template on your card. Fold the tabs inward and glue the tabs onto the card so that the template remains standing
5. Decorate the rest of your card
We hope you enjoyed our video! We will post a separate link to each of the craft activity/ instructional video, next week
